seats that will fit.....

Just returned from a visit to the upholsterer. When I showed him the fiberglass seat shells from dax he looked really worried. Apparently it is not easy (=expensive) to make these shells into seats. He quoted about 500 EURO per seat

His advice was to spend some more time looking for an alternative, ready made seat that might fit the dax.

Knowing dax, the dimension are probably so specific that no standard seat will fit.

But before I spend too much money..

Does anyone have good experience with alternative seats for the dax? Does this also require different runners and subframes?

Thanks

Re: seats that will fit.....

Hi

Only one recomendation for seats to fit a Dax and that is Richfield seating.

Far more comfortable than any Dax seats and they fit fine. I brought the runners from them as well.

Here is a picture of mine.

Re: seats that will fit.....

Hi,

I have the Richfield Seats in my Dax, they do a narrowed version that fits.

Tubular steel frame and all that, very comfortable.

I ordered the seats in the colour hide I wanted and got Richfield to supply the same Hide for the upholsterer to use when trimming the interior.

Regards
Chris

Re: seats that will fit.....

Thanks guys. Just gave Richfield a call and got a quote.

Have to decide between full leather or vinyl back. Any comments on that decision?

Re: seats that will fit.....

Craig, have just started looking for seats and like the look of the Richfield ones myself.

Have you fitted the 1190's or the 1191's, the latter I believe being slightly narrower?

Re: seats that will fit.....

Hi John

I'm not really sure what seats they are. I phoned Richfield and spoke to a very nice chap who knew excactly what I needed. I told him they were to fit in a Dax and he said he knew which ones I needed and I ordered them. I will have a look for the receipt tonight to see if it's stated on there.

Mine are full leather seats in Shetland stone colour with navy blue piping. Dax supplied the rest of the trim and Richfield managed to match the name of the leather then sent me a sample to confirm the match.

Great service and great seats but don't expect them to be too cheap!

Craig.

Its standard practice to put vinyl on the backs of the seats no-one ever sees them, it cuts down on the amount of leather needed.

Re: seats that will fit.....

Thanks Craig, I'll give them a ring and trust their recomendation.

Just another small point, is your steering column shroud Dax supplied or is that an ordinary Ford Sierra supplied item?

I've thought long and hard over this bit of the build but have yet to come up with a solution I'm totally happy with along with the Ford stalks!

Re: seats that will fit.....

Dax shells pad up absolutely fine and your trimmer is way way off in price. Just had nine done and they worked out about £575 the pair in leather.

I got the trimmer to pad out and fit to my frame - dont know about Richfield but i tried some display ones at the Europa display and they didn't have anything like the padding or comfort. Basically I think the comfort is down to how good your trimmer is. I got mine to add support to the thigh area as I have a bit of a dicky back.

See Photo.

Re: seats that will fit.....

Mike,

Thanks for your advice, I rang another trimmer and he quoted about 300 EURO per seat. Sounds much better :thumb: .
