Whats the maximum width wheels for the De Dion?

Has anyone put wider wheels on the De Dion than the recommended 8,1/2 Fronts and 10,1/2 Rears as im having 18"s and wouldnt mind 9" wide on front and as wide as possible on back?

One thing I have noticed with a few Dax cars is the really big turning circle they have, I think this is part due to the fact they have wider front wheels. On the AK they are 7.5" wide as standard and even with these the steering is quite heavy at parking speeds, hate to think what it would be like with wheels 9" plus and don't forget if you go too much over the manufacturers recommendations then the tyres are likely to rub on the body work on full lock as well as when driving on uneven roads. IMHO

If Dax recommend those sizes why go bigger, more rubber doesn't allways mean better roadholding, infact it could upset the whole balance of the car, especially track steer. :thumb:

I'm with Tinka and Grandpa on this one stick with the Dax recomended, the domonstrator has no traction issues and you could open up a can of worms later.

To add my twopeneth You will struggle to find decent tyres for bigger wheels on the rear

very sensible replys i cant stand when tyres rub on wheel arches ill stick with recommended sizes , jsut to clarify has anyone ever put bigger wheels on there car though?

I just built one with 19" on the front and 20" on the rear, but the overall widths were the same as on the 18".
You would be able to fit slightly wider wheels but they would not meet the requirements for the SVA test.
Those 295's on the back are plenty wide enough though.

Dave go to user CP and at the bottom you will see attatchments, click on that and it will bring up all the pictures you have posted, just delete the ones that are no longer needed. :thumb: :thumb:
