steering column

Hi Dave in Poole, finally pushing on with the build! just about to sort out the steering side of things, can someone confirm that I can use a column from pretty much any sierra? I know there is a wiring difference between square/round hazard switch types, but to be honest after the hassles I've had that sort of problem will be nothing!! if anyone knows of a column within striking distance that would be good, I have a Jag unit sitting in the garage if its of any use to someone. Thanks Dave

Re: steering column

Hi Keane
When I spoke last time to Darren at Dax he told me that the column you can tilt wont fit. The rest you said should be fine.

Re: steering column

Take heed of Marcs advice. We fitted an adjustable sierra column and it was a total b*****d of a job. Ended up effectively converting it back to a fixed column, involved a lot of bracket fabricating and head scratching. Still not entirely happy with it. I wish we had gone with the standard column now.

Re: steering column

Hi Warren, sorry I was going to give you a bell sometime, time just goes on by, I have fitted the bodyshell so I can get some other parts trial fitted, I put the shell on by myself the other day! not easy, but I have had it up on scaffold pole supports with wooden planks underneath, and I have fitted a 'I' beam with a clarkes(machine mart) hoist that moves on a trolley. To facillitate the fit I took the handbrake plate off with a grinder! I'll weld that back on before final fit, if anyone wanted to know it is possible on your jack but not ideal!! I have also now got the gearbox yolk lined up with the diff, fabricated some mounts and have welded uj's back to back, so hopefully moving forward.Hows things with you? Dave
