Chevy V8 Electric Fuel Pump

Gents,

Can anyone advise on the best electric fuel pump for me to use with a Chevy 350 v8 small block, Holley 4bbl 800cfm carb, 430bhp?

If so do you know where I can buy a new one with all ancilliary components (i.e. fixing bracket, etc).

Thanks

I have fitted a holley black fuel pump but I have a nitrous kit. A holley blue pump should be good for you. I bought mine on ebay for $100.:thumb:

Re: Chevy V8 Electric Fuel Pump

Troops,

I've thrown a wobbler and went and bought a Carter fuel pump at Summit Racing online. I think it should work for what I want. It's half the fun of kit car building. Just buy it and hope it works.

Here's the spec!

Carter Electric fuel pump, Competition series black pump
Part #: CRT-P4601HP

Universal Rotary Vane Electric Fuel Pump
Free Flow Rate:100 gph
Maximum Pressure (psi):18
Inlet Size:3/8 in. NPT
Inlet Quantity:Single
Inlet Attachment:Female threads
Outlet Size:3/8 in. NPT
Outlet Quantity:Single
Outlet Attachment:Female threads

Re: Chevy V8 Electric Fuel Pump

sounds to me like you have bought the wrong pump if it is going to put out 18 PSI as most carburettors only need about 6 PSI and if you give them much more than 8 PSI then they will flood. If this is true then you will have to get your self a pressure regulator to sort the problem

Re: Chevy V8 Electric Fuel Pump

From what I understood it can operate up to a pressure of 18psi, not 18psi as a working pressure. Hmmm oh well If I have to fit a regulator so be it.

It's only money (throwing hat on ground and stomping on it insanely).

Anyway, now you tell me!

Re: Chevy V8 Electric Fuel Pump

I think I used the Carter 4070 pump

72 gallons per hour

6 psi

Got it from Re-Power roadcraft in Lancing, West Sussex.

Seems OK for my 350 chevy

Craig.

I think Martin is right, you will probably need a regulator with that. Ideally 5 to 5.5 PSI and dont forget to set your float heights after you have set the pressure as they are affected. You wont be dissapointed, its one of the quietest pumps I've used that gives that delivery. The Billet summit unit I have at present is as noisy as hell

Re: Chevy V8 Electric Fuel Pump

Troops,

As suggested I have now changed the type of fuel pump I have ordered (Just in time). Thanks for all the assistance.

I also spoke with the enginefactory who informed me that I need to use a pressure of around 6psi which concurrs with what you chaps were saying. They told me if I was to use 18psi I would have to regulate it down or else I would destroy the engine in a very short time (Jesus!).

Something to do with forcing the fuel past the piston rings and destroying the cylinder walls (I said "Hey that doesn't sound to good"....They agreed).

So the new fuel pump will be:

Carter Universal Rotary Vane Electric Fuel Pump
Part # CRT-P4070

Cost: $60.00 (about £42.00 including VAT and import tax)

Free Flow Rate: 72 gph
Maximum Pressure (psi): 6
Inlet Size: 1/4 in. NPT
Inlet Quantity: Single
Inlet Attachment: Female threads
Outlet Size: 1/4 in. NPT
Outlet Quantity: Single
Outlet Attachment: Female threads

So hopefully if there are any more muppets out there like me who don't know what fuel pump to buy this little thread will be just the ticket.

Re: Chevy V8 Electric Fuel Pump

Bogster, hopefully, if you've ordered the pump from Summit, you've ordered a fair amount of parts as they set a $25 (or thereabouts) handling charge for overseas orders + shipping and handling.
