Replacing DAX seats in my Cob

I want to replace the seats in my DAX cob. Does anyone know if the Cobra Roadster SS or Cobra Cub seats fit? I've been quoted £750 to recover the old shells - it seems that a pair of new seats is not that much more! Anyone used Richfields or Intatrims? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Replacing DAX seats in my Cob

Hi Mick & Soo.
£750 sounds a lot to recover your old shells We only paid £2k for the complete pro trim. (£600 of that was for 3 hides). That included making seats (shells provided by us) Door cards, Dash, Gear Lever/Handbrake and Seatbelt covers, and 46 pieces of carpet (all leather bound)
Bearing in mind that you could get a hide from the likes of TonyC a lot cheaper than we paid, and one hide should be more than enough for both seats. Have a word wth Polyfacto 01323 841399 and ask how much they would charge if you supplied the hide.

Re: Replacing DAX seats in my Cob

Got my seats from Richfield just before Xmas in full leather, £700 all in!

Had to pick them up myself for that price though, but they will post, another £25 I think.

Thanks for the info. Received another quote at £680. Still a bit expensive I feel. Do you have a phone no. for Tony C? If so, could you PM me?

John

Jesus guys!!!!
You paid how much?

hides cost around £90-£120 each for 50 footers (£1.80-£2.40 per sq ft.)
Two hides are ample for just the seats and panels, three hides will do all the seats, panels, transmission tunnel top (If you so desire) and bind the edges of all the carpet. with just the backs of the seats covered in vinyl.
Wool carpet (Good stuff) around £20 or so per metre (Around 8-10 metres per car inc. boot loor and inner rear arches.
If you can get a trimmer to do you a deal for sewing it all up in his spare time you should get him to charge between £400-£700 for his trouble.

Don't read too much into the hype about metal feamed seats being safer(If you haven't heard it already).(If your car was crushed would you prefer to be sat in a GRP seat that springs back open again or a metal one that closes on you like a staple?

Re: Replacing DAX seats in my Cob

Emgee, I got the 1191's which are designed specifically for the narow cobra bays. Quality is excellent, but as Dave states, not cheap.

Got the shock of my life when Dax quoted me £685 + VAT for thier Luxury carpet set and you've got to fit it yourself!!! Can't believe they sell to many of them!!

I would like to put a few things straight concerning steel framed seats, 1 particular seat that Richfield Seating supply has been tested by Status at Manchester university(can the same be said about fibreglass seats) so the comment about a metal one closing on you like a staple is totally unfounded, a pair of leather faced seats of Richfield's would cost £550.63 which is the majority of seats in leather supplied, in total leather price would be £700.54.The difference in price is made up of using only the finest quality materials including fire retardant foam & a suspension unit on the bottom of the seat base.
