Petrol tank/pipe question

There seems a lot of questions kicking about petrol pipes at the moment, so I thought I would add to it !
I have a Dax tank for a De-Dion, and it has 2 outlets, or should I say 1 outlet, 1 inlet. The bigger pipe is open and O/D 13mm and the smaller one is 8mm and closed. I take it the small one you can open and use as a return for fuel injection. I am at a bit of a loss as to how the open pipe (13mm=1/2") then goes to solid pipe that is supposed to be 3/8" O/D ?
Do you need a 'step down' flexible pipe from the tank to the pump, or does the pump (not got that yet) have an input of 1/2" and output of 3/8".
Hope that all make sense, but I want to run the fuel line along the chassis so I can get the engine in, and get a bit more space in the garage !
Thanks.

Re: Petrol tank/pipe question

Hi Mark

Dax supply reducer pipe 13mm to 3/8. most filters used are 3/8 in and out, Dax can supply in line filter but it is small. I got one from Lucas and bolted it between tank / fuel pump.
hope this helps Andy

Thnaks Gents,
Seems strange they fit 13mm then supply a step down. Why don't they just weld a 3/8 pipe in from the start !
Another part to sell you I suppose.

Good question................Maybe because then they wouldn't be able to sell you an adaptor!!

ps Demon Tweeks also do 1/2" to 3/8" reducers!

Re: Petrol tank/pipe question

Can you not just run 1/2" pipe the full length car?

Re: Petrol tank/pipe question

Yes could do, but would mean changing the inlet on the carb, not a big job I know. I was more interested as everybody here, and the Dax manual says running 3/8" pipe, so I thought I was missing something. I think my best option is to change the inlet on the fuel pump. 1/2" from tank to pump, then 3/8" from pump up to carb.

Re: Petrol tank/pipe question

If you're putting a fuel filter in between the tank & pump make sure you can get one with 1/2" connectors as most of them are 3/8".
