Re: Stiff Clutch

Are they any good though? And also how big are they - I can't really work that out.

I am still intrigued that there is not a way to make this work by altering the various combinations of slave and master.

Re: Stiff Clutch

These guys do a remote servo for £148 which I think will take some beating for a new one. http://www.trshop.co.uk/special.html

A freind of mine in Milton keynes has fitted one to his AK recently and says the clutch feels like a production car as far as effort on the pedal is concerned. He`s running a Chevy stroker with 11" clutch.. Goes under the name of J4NCOB on this forum.

Re: Stiff Clutch

Seems like a good idea but not sure where I would put it. The only possibility I guess is under the dash somewhere.

Re: Stiff Clutch

May sound a bit daft but have you tried operating the clucth with your seat in position, if not you will be at full stretch with your left leg and it will feel very stiff.Mine felt considerably easier once I got the seats etc. fitted.

Re: Stiff Clutch

No not at all Tony. The seats are not in and I did think about it, but I didn't think that it would make that much difference. How much difference do you think it made?

Re: Stiff Clutch

Without the seats I found my leg was pushing me back against the rear bulkhead and my clutch leg was at full stretch and consequently at it`s weakest.Once the seats were in it moved me forward about 3" and gave me purchase to apply the required force, my clutch leg is now bent at the knee when the pedal is fully depressed and I found it made a huge difference . If I were to try and quantify the effort `d say it seemed about 20% easier.Although you do get used to it the more you try.

Give it a go you may be surprised.

Re: Stiff Clutch

Tony,

If the seats are 3" higher how much further forward is your back, away from the rear bulkhead. I will try and rig something up to give it a whirl.

Re: Stiff Clutch

Jon - you can make the clutch "lighter" by going to a smaller dia master, or a larger dia slave.

The trouble is that, for the same mechanical stroke at the pedal, you get less at the slave.

You might try seeing what stroke you get at the slave, and where is the clutch "bite point" in relation to the pedal movement. If your bite point is very high, you might actually be overstroking the clutch, so you could reduce the master dia without compromising the clutch action.

As others have said, sometimes a servo is the only way around it. Bit of a gay thing to have tho'.

PS - forgot to mention, it might feel easier once you are actually seated in the car, as you get more leverage then.

Definately easier when seated, but still bloody stiff. I have suffered with a really stiff one for some time now and taking Wilfs advice, it sounds as if I would become a little gay if I lost the stiffness, so I guess I will just have to continue driving round with a really stiff one then.
