Harness Eye Bolt Problem

Has anyone had this problem???

The eye bolts supplied with the harness's from Dax foul on on the chassis and will not engage with the nut that is welded on the back of the plate.

They are both the same, nearside & offside. The body is completely snug on the chassis in this area and this is without the rear tunnel section fitted. Once that is fitted the eye bolts won't go anywhere near!

Can't understand why Dax would attach these anchour points so low down, seems ridiculous but what do I know!!!

Re: Harness Eye Bolt Problem

Hi John.
From the picture your eye bolts are hitting the GRP and not the chassis. Just grind the GRP away around the area where the swing of the eyebolt is and then make a cut out in the tunnel section..........C'mon John wakey, wakey.

Re: Harness Eye Bolt Problem

Johnny,

Mine are touching the fibreglass body. Like Dave says I'll have to grind down a channel and cut a notch in the tunnel. Not exactly what I would like but it's minor compared to some of the modifications I've had to make lately.

Re: Harness Eye Bolt Problem

GRP, chassis all the same to me!!!!

The thing is why arn't they mounted 1/2" higher then you don't have to do anything to the GRP, it's not as if they are struggling for space.

Dave, do you cut a slot in the tunnel so it fits over the eye bolt with it in place??

As I said to you on the phone, why do we have to keep modifying parts that are specially made, it really annoys the hell out of me!!!!

Re: Harness Eye Bolt Problem

Its all the fun of building a kit car altering things and adapting them!! Isnt it?

Ive learnt a lot from building my kit. The main one is never do another one!

Ive adjusted this altered that and given up on other things.

I agree with you if you buy something that is purpose made for the job, like inner footwell shiney panels and purpose made headers they should fit.

Not fit the inner panels, try to fit your exhaust then find that there is not enough clearance for the manifold on the shiney things youve just paid a fortune for.

I accept there should be some altreration but lifting your engine by an inch to allow for engine rock and clearance of the manifolds aint right me thinks.

Im not mentioning manufacturer here in light of recent court rulings but I will be dropping them a line when finished to highlight some of the problem areas I have encountered, and advise them of the additional costs I have bourne. If they wish to contribute to those additional costs in light of the info provided I will advise you all.

Maybe I entered into building a kit car with my eyes firmly closed but its certainly opened the bank managers eyes!!

Grumble over applied for SVA today!! Yippee

Regards

Mark

Re: Harness Eye Bolt Problem

I had to do the same thing.

I fitted the rear transmission tunnel cover then drilled a hole to line up with the threaded nut. Using a dremmel I ground down enough fibreglass to allow the eye bolt to rotate. You may need to use a couple of washers to get the orientation of the eye bolt correct.

I think the threads are mounted that low because of the height from the seat base. You need the belt to be pulling up rather than sideways when tensioned.

Craig.

Re: Harness Eye Bolt Problem

hi guys.
i,m almost at the sva application stage on my dax, and i have to say that it has gone together excellently with only minor modifications and a bit of thought with some things. I built a pilgrim sumo some years ago and although it is a very good kit for the money, most of the build needed attention and a lot, and a lot, and a lot of time and hair pulling out. the dax is a very well designed and produced "kit"

Re: Harness Eye Bolt Problem

Mr Jones

I fully agree with you. I finished and SVA'd my car about a year ago and throughout the build I was very impressed with the quality of the kit. I only modified things that I felt would improve the finished car and the rest bolted together very well.
I wanted a car to "build" and did not want to just buy a large box of parts and screw it together.
My car is now away at the paint shop so I will hopefully get it finished completely for the summer. The painter has painted an early Dax before and comented that the body needed alot of work to get it ready for the painting. He was impressed with how much the Dax body has improved over the years and said mine should only need minimal prep work before aplying the filler primmer.
I would not hesitate to build another Dax or recomend them to anyone else, who was interested in building a car.

Craig.
