Hoses Hoses Hoses and more Hoses

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what size of hose I need for coming off the brake reservoir onto the master cylinder for the Dax bought brake reservoir and master cylinder, also what type of connections do I need? I have also bought a 7/8" clutch master cylinder from dax but I'm not sure what the size of fitting is required that comes off it to go the slave cylinder. Any help appreciated.

Oh one last question, I have a chevy small block, does anyone know the size and type of thread for the inlet/outlet connections for the heater hose on the inlet manifold and water pump?

Thanks for any help.

Colin.
Did you not want to get the hoses from Dax?

Heater hoses are 1/2" BSP/NPT

Colin, got all mine from Dax, seemed a lot easier and were fairly cheap for the master cyl to resevoir.

The braided clutch line from Dax though is a shade over £50!!!

When sourcing the fittings for the heater it gives a much neater/easier installation if you get 90 degree fittings rather than stright. Got mine from Think Auto.

Re: Hoses Hoses Hoses and more Hoses

Thanks Clive, the Automec flaring tool works a treat. Every flare I made was perfect thanks to the tool. Cost £107 but it was worth it if my brakes hold pressure when I'm driving which I now have full confidence they will. Recommend anyone to seriously consider parting with their hard earned cash for one or take their lines to someone who has the proper tool for flaring. The Draper hand tool just doesn't do a good job and leaves you with doubt about the integrity of the flare.

Dave, Cheers for the info on the heater hose connections. I have now ordered them from repower. They had perfect chrome straight connectors 1/2 npt male thread (just the job).

I bought the brake kit from Dax but the hoses that connect between the reservoir and the master cylinder were not in the pack. Should they be?

Can I just confirm something. Am I correct that I need bulkhead connectors for the heater hoses were they pass through the bulkhead above the tunnel. If so Where do I get them from?

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated

Hi Colin.
I don't buy the brake kit as such from Dax, I justy buy parts so I don't know if the hoses should be included in the kit.

You do not need a bulkhead connector, at least i don't use them. I just pass the hose from the heaters through the bulkhead and terminate at the unions on the engine.

Re: Hoses Hoses Hoses and more Hoses

Hi Colin,

The hoses don't come in the kit but they are available from Dax. Just measured a little bit of an off cut from the hoses supplied - o/d is 12mm, i/d is 7mm. There are no markings on the hose either.

Re: Hoses Hoses Hoses and more Hoses

Btw - We have the 3/4" clutch master - the output fitting is 3/4 unf. I'm sure you have noticed but you need a banjo fitting for the output because otherwise the pipe is too close to the body. (Yes we didn't notice first time around!!)

Re: Hoses Hoses Hoses and more Hoses

Thanks JonnyT

I'll pop into my local car parts shop and get the hose I need. The clutch master cylinder fitting sounds like the inlet size. The thread looks more like a 3/8" rather than 3/4" UNF. Can you confirm please. I have the fitting for the inlet connection however not the one for the outlet to the slave cylinder.

Cheers

Re: Hoses Hoses Hoses and more Hoses

You are absolutely right Colin - the fitting is 3/8 UNF not 3/4 - I have checked the speedflow order.
