XJ40 diff ratios again!

XJ40 diffs don't seem to have a handy tag on the outside to tell you what ratio the diff is or if it's a Powr-Lock limited slip.

I'ts fine when you have the thing in front of you to count teeth and spin the wheels etc. but I'm trying to identify one that's on a car some 100 miles away and still fitted in the car.

Is it possible and does anybody know where you can get the specification for a car (and diff ratio) by it's engine number?

It would appear that just going off the engine size isn't enough as I believe they did a few different variants and the powr-lock version was an extra.

A long shot I know but it would be a great help if anybody out there could shed some light on the subject.

Many Thanks,

Andy
