Dax Indicator Stalk. Can you help?

Hi, I have a 1991 built Dax Cobra replica & the clamp on indicator/flash/main beam/horn assembly has just failed.
Anyone know what the donor vehicle was for this item?
Better still, any ideas where I can pick one up?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Dax Indicator Stalk. Can you help?

Hi Barry,

It's off a Ford Sierra. Probably 1987 or earlier but could possibly be later. If it has a push button horn then it is a later model. If the horn is on the stalk then it will be 1987 or earlier (I think). In any case I am quite sure it is from a Ford Sierra.

:drive:

Ebay is really good for things like this. That is were I got my steering column from.

Re: Dax Indicator Stalk. Can you help?

If it's a 91 Dax chassis the column is probably a Triumph Dolomite (Phased out in around 94 for the Sierra one)

Re: Dax Indicator Stalk. Can you help?

I think it is likely to be a Dolomite column. The switch style & markings looks typically Triumph.
Thanks

Re: Dax Indicator Stalk. Can you help?

I have a spare dolly column, which bits have actually failed? I might be able to let you have replacements for the broken bits.

Picked mine up on ebay for £40, to replace the wiper stalk.

BEWARE!!!!

There are two different types of dolly column.

BL changed the design, the early ones have the indicator on the right, the later ones have it on the left. The two types do interchange, but you have to swap the casing too and the wiring is very slightly different. you will also have to pull the column out and rotate it by 180 degrees to get the indicator cancel knob to work properly.

Cheers.
Mark.

Re: Dax Indicator Stalk. Can you help?

Thanks for that. Nothing with these motors is ever straight forward.
It is the contacts that have failed in the indicator/horn/flasher assembly & therefore a complete replacement unit is required.
My stalk is on the left & so naturally I am seeking a direct swap (I do not fancy disturbing the column).
If you have the part I need then great. Please advice the cost etc. If not, then I will have to go to Rimmer Bros.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Dax Indicator Stalk. Can you help?

Having established my indicator stalk is indeed a Dolomite unit. I have got a new one from Rimmer Brothers (thanks all for the help).
Ever since I purchased the car, the left turn indicator never cancelled itself. Having now stripped the column electrics I can see the cancelling tong on the column points vertically down (with the wheels straight). Can anyone confirm that this is incorrect & it should, as I believe, be poistioned at 9 o`clock i.e. directly in the centre of the indicator switch cancelling crab arms (on my car indicator is mounted on the left) ?

Re: Dax Indicator Stalk. Can you help?

On the Sierra Column it is indeed in the center of the switch unit or the 9 o'clock position when viewed from the seat. I see no reason why yours should be different.

On the Sierra the canceling arm is on a plastic collar that locates in the back of the steering wheel boss, so the position of the shaft itself does not matter as long as the wheel is lined up. If yours is fixed to the column then you may have to reposition the wheel in relation to the canceling tab the rotate the column on the lower joints to get the orientation back when the wheels are straight ahead.

Craig.
