| XJ40 PowerLok Diff or not This may be of help to someone, I've been reading the Jaguar TIF Workshop Manuals and they include a comment on how to recognise a PowerLok Diff from a standard Diff.
Both types will include a metal tab on the Diff cover with the ratio, ie '354', a PowerLok Diff will have a second metal tab - should be stamped 'PL' but mine wasn't - had some code on it like 'EC###' and I've heard of others with a code like this, additionally a PowerLok Diff should also have a red square sticker with a black cross though it, under the gunk on my diff I did find this but given how easily it came off I wouldn't be surprised if it had fallen off.
Off course you could just spin one wheel hub (with gearbox in neutral or propshaft removed and on a bench like mine) if the other moves in the same direction then its a powerlok.
I'm still trying to get the diff cover off mine for a manual inspection, need to get an angle grinder to the subframe mounting studs so I can get to the nut.
