Electric Fuel Pump Cover

Hi All,

Spent the day cutting, welding, grinding and sanding. Decided to make a protective cover for my electric fuel pump just incase something were to fly off the road and hit it. I got some plate steel from the scrap merchant yesterday. Went through 4 grinding discs cutting it into shape (have to get a cutting torch)!

It's off to the powder coater on Monday. :thumb: :thumb:

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Cover

Forgot to mention,

Please note the brake line routing is not really the best place to take it and I will be moving it shortly. As Dave pointed out it is very close to the propshaft. although there is about 10mm between them it's still too close. I'm going to take the brake line through the other hole in the chassis just below were it is now. :drive:

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Cover

You know it makes sense.....

Also Colin!!!! (Colin says "Oh no, what now")
You may find that you have to grind off the lip on the bottom of the bellhousing as it is more than likely to not skid over Sleeping policemen but dig straight into them dramatically reducing your stopping distance from 100's of feet to under 2 inches.(I'm being extreme now).

Another also...... (God he must hate me by now). The SVA guys might not be happy about the handbrake cable rubbing against itself. I run the cable outer under the cable inner.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Cover

Dave,

This is a good sign. You are starting to get very pedantic which must mean I am nearly there! Fantastic! :thumb: :thumb: :drive:

Thanks for all your help.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Cover

Colin,

Seeing as we seem to be on the SVA advice... I notice that your fuel pump wiring is unprotected. Not sure of the rule here but my SVA inspector commented to me that a lot of people are sent back for rework because they haven't adequately protected the cabling (i.e using ducting).

Regards

SJ

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Cover

Looks like a great piece of fabrication, though...

When you get it powdercoated, pay extra to have it zinc sprayed first - gives much better corrosion protection...

...then paint it all with underbody sealant to protect the powdercoat from chips!!

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Cover

Paint with zinc undercoat and smooth Hammerite, why waste money on powdercoat, nobody's going to see it, unless you run them over :thumb:

........Then when it does eventially chip you will have a bitch of a job cleaning off all the gungy underseal before you can give it a quick wire brush and touch up with hammerite.
