Dax seats or richfield seats

Hello
Just picked up to richfield seats. They are special for Dax cobras as they are 1 inch smaller then the normal type. I have fitted them in and it seems I have less legroom compared to the dax ones. Have I missed something or is it just imagination??? When the seats are fully moved back, there is about 1 inch gap between the back of the seat and the rear bulkhead. I can't move the seat any further back. On one side there is the wheelarch and on the other is the chassis rail.
Have I done something wrong?? Or have I just grown since I went last to Dax??

Re: Dax seats or richfield seats

Sounds like you have them in the right place.
I have the same seats and the back is about an inch from the bulkhead and touches the wheel arch and the inner chassis rails. I guess Richfield use a bit more padding on the back of their seats.

It was fine for me as I am fairly short so I can still reach the pedals with the seat right back.

Craig.

Re: Dax seats or richfield seats

Mark I do not have Dax ones in my car, but I understand that thier seats are notched at the back of the base which allows them to clear the chassis rails and travel back further, thus giving more leg room, this might be why you have noticed a difference, the Richfield ones may be narrow but do they have the same notch at the back? Re: Dax seats or richfield seats

Hello Simon
Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately the Richfield ones do not have the notch. According to Craig it seems that I have fixed the seats as far back as possible.

Thanks

Marc

Re: Dax seats or richfield seats

Hi guys,

I have the dax seat shells and no sign of notches anywhere...admittedly they are a few years old so I can only assume they have changed them?

Re: Dax seats or richfield seats

Just a thought, is there different seats for De Dion and Standard Chassis.

Re: Dax seats or richfield seats

It is possible to create the notch effect with a richfield but it involves quite a bit of work to alter the steel framework at the base of the seat. Of course you can also find some more room at the pedal end of things.
Not exactly what you want to do to such expensive items but sometimes it is that or off to your orthopedic surgeon for a couple of inches off the legs!

Re: Dax seats or richfield seats

Hi Andy, so you also think there is a notch in the Dax shells, I seemed to remember it being pointed out to me a few years ago, on a change of subject a date for next year, Sunday July 1st, Seething Charity Airshow, as many Cobras as possible are welcome in the classic car display area, would be good to beat the 11 that made it this year and provided the biggest single type display, they went down very well with the public. This year we will be having a proper (if small) air display by the RAF as well as the usual mix of stalls, music, food, classic and military vehicles as well as as many visiting aircraft as we can get so please put in our calender for next year. Hope you guys all have a good club Xmas dinner, sorry I can't join you, cheers, Simon

Hi Marc, if you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? I've gone for the Richfield seats 'cos I love their appearance, I haven't yet tried a Dax with them fitted, I'm 6'1 ish, wondering about legroom myself now!

Hi Paul.
Thought you might like to know....Your seats are here!!!!
The Dax seats (Current or early) do not have any notching in the back, there is a steady curve all the way around.:thumb:
The Rickfields are made very differently and this is why they don't go all the way back.
The std and De dion floor pans are exactly the same.:thumb:

Next question.
