Roll hoop

Does anyone know the possible probelms I might encounter changing an existing double width roll hoop to a single roll hoop behind drivers seat .i ask because the car im interested in has double width hoop and I would prefer a single hoop.Car is Dax V12 with auto box but i would want to change that for manual.Eventually funds permitting (wife, kids ,etc, etc) I would like to go american V8 route. Many thanks Jim.:thumb:

Re: Roll hoop

Hello
Open the boot and have a look if there are 4 pipes weldet to the chassis. For example, I have orderd my chassis with the intention to use 2 single hoops, but I have only mounted the driver side one. So the passenger side is not used but the mounting pipes are there.
If not you maybe have to make a bracket to hold the second pipe in place.

Re: Roll hoop

Thanks Marc
When i next get to see around the car i will do what you say, however if im left with the hole in the fibreglass when i take the old one out is this easy to patch up as i have no experience with fibreglass repairs ,finishing etc.
Has anyone else done this alteration. The car was built about 1986-87 i think.:thumb:

Re: Roll hoop

Hi Jim,

I spoke to Dax a while back about this as I considered doing the same, they advised me that alot of the time the roll hoop was specified when the chassis was prepared, and the mounts fitted as needed.

I never did check mine to see if the other two are there, but it may well be that I'd have to fit some extra mounts.

Fingers crossed they are there...

Cheers,:thumb:

jgfabs, mine has a double width roll hoop. The mounts are not in the boot, but in the wheel arches. The other mount you require for your single hoop will need to be welded to the chassis in an almost impossible to get at location unless you remove a section from the inner boot area and then glass it back. As for the hole in the rear deck. This can be repaired but as with mine (someone cut the body for the single hoop) with age and movement of the glass fiber the paint has cracked in a circle. It may not have been repaired that well, but it has cracked.

Good luck!:thumb:

Thats ok m8. The engine change cost is based on my change from an RV8 to my Chevy 454. Still on going as time and funds dried up some years back!

Ian:thumb:

Chassis is circa 1989. History a bit grey but it has E-type jag brake master with remote servo behind the rad and a Dolomite rack!

Re: Roll hoop

Someone told me that early Dax cobs had Truimph steering as opposed to later cars and that the steering is vague.I presume the one im looking at has Triumph.Do you have any views on this?
