For what it's worth....
I have a car with the rivet on scoop in my workshop at the mo.
I have a std SBC fitted from Repower and this has the regular 14 X 3" drop side filter and the bonnet shuts.....just!
I didn't think it would but some tape stuck to the uderside of the bonnet revealed no marks when bonnet closed and engine run.

Please remember that the long oval "Cobra" filter is cack! and will seriouslty affect air flow.
If you go narrower than 14" you will lose the "drop side" option.
Also, many of tyhe 7" filters are too restrictive too for the amount of air that these engine move.

The scoop I fitted was customer supplied and came from the States, but is the same shape as the Hawk/original one.

re air filter

Just watching this thread with an interest, I have a 545ci Big Block Ford(this is definitely the final build spec!!) topped off with a single plane Victor Manifold 6"+), with a 1050 Dominator carb on top! I have a brand new 14" alloy Edelbrock script round airfilter with a 3" filter, I am pretty sure I will have to chop the scoop(large Dax) to modify or go for an aftermarket rivet/bond on, Dave is spot on re the air flow, whats the point of paying all that hard earned for your motor and then choking it on top, hopefully I will be able to see where I'm going!! Dave
