Bonnet scoop on a DAX Toj

Hi guys, newbie here , i am in the process of building a DAX de-dion, well waiting for the rolling chassis and the body shell to arrive and then i will be building proper.......however currently i am faced with making a decision over what type of bonnet scoop to go for, DAX are trying to steer me towards there now standard large scoop (which personally i am not keen on) but i prefer the look of the smaller scoops or a plain bonnet and rivet on scoop, so the questions are:

1. Will a small scoop allow sufficient room for the engine air cleaner (chevy 350) or do i really have to go the large scoop route beacuse of this?

2. Can anyone point me to where i can get a small scoop from for riveting to a plain bonnet

cheers.[/b]

Hello Johnny,

When I ordered my Dax Body about a year ago, it wanted the small scoop bonnet. Dax rang me up and said, that my 350 will not fit under the bonnet. I had to go for the standard one.

I'am not sure, but with a lower air-filter it may be works.

Marc

I've got the big scoop and need it with the 14" round air cleaner I am using.

I cant see why you can't use a smaller scoop with a smaller air cleaner.
You could try the triangular shaped ones or the elongated oval shaped ones.

Don't be surprised if Dax try to steer you down the non standard route. They have a production line going there and anything unusual slows things down I think. Stick with what you want and don't give in!

Look under body accessories on this site

http://finishlineaccessories.com/catalog/

They also do a nice selection of air cleaners.

Craig.

re scoop

Johnny, have a look at summitracing, they have a fair selection of scoops, check hotrod sites/shops for grp/ally types, have a look on eurodragster.com, put a wanted ad on there, should be fairly easy to find one. Dave

Not sure if it is of any relevance, but on ours it depended on the air filter that you have.

If we had one of the thin ones (on a 351W stroker) it would have fitted under the standard scoop. However, we went for the ford racing, high oval filter. We had to have the scoop enlarged above the standard scoop for this filter by about an inch.

Hi Johnny,
I am changing my car to have the smaller riveted on scoop later this year.

I know of a few people that have the smaller scoop with a SBC underneath. You cannot use the 14" filter but there are plenty of other options out there for smaller filters that will fit.

You can get the original shaped scoops from Hawk cars.

I also have a small scoop and a big block with a very low intake. Looks like it may fit but still to find out. One day soon!

Brian. More info on your bonnet mods please. Thumb.

Yep! But if my lump of cast iron will fit with a small scoop, I'm sure those compact small blocks will be lost!! All that room! Bet the damn thing won't fit now
