Grill Mesh or Not

Hi all

Any advice about using mesh in the large hole in front of the radiator?

DJ reckon that if you used the same small mesh that you use for the oil cooler, brake holes, bonnet hole then the engine would overheat

The alternative is to fit the two grill bars for SVA - how easy is it to remove these afterwards?

Cheers

Warren

Personally don't like mesh on the front as it spoils the look, IMHO.

For the SVA I only fitted one bar across the middle which was fine.

Bonded it on with silicon and took it off afterwards.

Thanks John

I was thinking of using the single chromed wind deflector supplied by DJ but was told I would still need to fix the two SVA bars to get through the test

Confused!!

Warren, if you have a look through the SVA guide it only has to stop a sphere of a certain size from entering the front opening.

Blow up a balloon to this size and give it a try. The SVA inspector checked mine and it was fine.

I'll try again

Hi John

According to the manual the sphere size is 100mm dia.

A grill bar located in the centre does not prevent the ball entering above or below

Perhaps you caught the inspector on a good day

Cheers

Put the grill bar in and put a blank/old number plate on it with a couple of p-clips. Be sure to radius the edges first though, 2.5mm I think.

Thinking back, I did have only one bar but as suggested here I mounted a reg plate off my other car in the middle of the bar.

It's all coming back to me now!!!!

Cheers Neil

I'm sure I'm not the first to think some parts of the SVA test are a complete pain in the a**e

Here are pics of mine before and after mesh.

To me it looks far far better WITH the mesh than without - it looks more finished.

Also give you piece of mind with it guarding the radiator!
