Pedal Box

Offering up the pedal box to the footwell in order to mark the required holes is easy although an ergonomic pain. It has to be done with the clutch pedal removed. But the DAX manual indicates that on final assembly fit the clutch pedal. Problem is you can't. Once the box is in place, you can offer up the clutch pedal but cannot fit the long pivot bolt. If you fit the clutch pedal before offering up the box, it cannot be done as the clutch actuating arm catches on the top of the footwell. The only solution I can see is to enlarge the slot in the upper well to allow the lever to slide forwards as the box is moved into position. You then end up with a slot much larger than required but it's covered up from the top anyway by the bracket that holds the master cylinder.

Does anyone have a simpler solution - apart from doing away with the clutch pedal!! Thanks.

Bob

Hi Bob.
Go the long slot route. as you say it is covered by the bracket when assembled.

Thanks Dave. Will do. On a different matter, do you know if it's possible to do a keyword search of all the messages to see if there are any items on a particular topic. It seems to me that the only way to search is to scroll through every message until a relevant one (if there is one) crops up. Thanks.

If it can be done I don't know how to do it. Sorry.

Si,

Thanks for the offer to look at your car and meet. Would like to do this if possible. But I need your address. For information, mine is:

31 Craigfern Drive, Blanefield, Glasgow G63 9DP. (Home tel = 01360 770431). I live just 10 miles north of Glasgow, just off the main road to Loch Lomond.

When would be the best day/time to visit? For info I have attached a pic of my last car. This one took around 5 years to build. I'm hoping to have the Cobra on the road for next summer!!

I too noticed the problem getting the bolt into place but also noticed it was only about 6mm short of fitting.

What I did was cut a clearance hole on the inner side of the footwell so you can place the bolt head in there then rotate the bolt to line up with the pedal pivot and fit the bolt no problem.
As long as you have the footwell aluminum or stainless lining fitted you will not see the hole from the outside.

I also cleared the fibreglass from the top of the footwell to enable me to move the steering column upwards a bit more to miss the headers.

Craig.

Just been looking at my car and the bolt I made clearance for was the brake pedal. The clutch bolt in my car can be slid far enough back to allow removal of the pedal but you cant remove the bolt entirely.
As long as the bolt is in place when the pedal box is fitted I Didn't have a problem. Maybe somethings changed?
Craig.
