rear nudge bar

Just about to start fitting the the rear nudge bar, I have noticed on the rear of the body there is four small indentations, are these markers for the nudge bar? I have held the nudge bar up to these four mark's and it seems to sit approx 1/4" - 1/2" off centre to left of the car. i have looked at several pics and 70% of them do sit slightly off centre to the left. Is this the norm?

Many thanks

Russ

Hi Russ.
And if you drill through the marks it will no line up with the pre drilled holes in the de Dion chassis (That is if you have the body aligned properly).
I do a bit of modiflying to centralise it all.
Feel free to give me a call and I'll explain what I do to remedy this.

Hi Russ,

Yes, The body and chassis are misaligned at the rear of the Dax and there isn't anything you can do to sort it. It's something to do with the body not being as straight as the chassis. As you say the nudge bar mount plates on the chassis are to the left of the centreline of the body and not equidistant. I believe the only way you can sort it is to bolt or weld additional plate to the right of the chassis plate mounts so that you can move the mounts over to the right to cenrtalise the nudge bar. I didn't want to do this as its a right pain in the ar*e when the body is on.

To be honest it doesn't look that bad when its on and you would be amazed to find that no one picks up on it. I've had over 30 people looking at my car and no one has spotted it yet. Obviously if you point it out they see it but not until then.

The way I did mine was tie a string to the hole on the chasis mount and dangle it below with a weight on the end. Then you can get a centre line on the body of where the holes are (see picture). Then to get the hole heights put a straight edge level on the bottom edge of the body and just take a measurement from the centre line of the hole down to the body edge and transfer this up to the outer side of the body.

It is also worth checking the nudgebar. I had to sort through ten untill I found one where the mounting tubes were less than 10mm equidistant from the ends These were Pilgrim supplied but I'm guessing they may all be made by the same supplier A simple jig springs to mind

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the info, the near side chassis mounts is near enough bang on, but the other side is way off. I was thinking of holding the nudgebar central, mark the holes and re-drill the chassis mounts to suit or elongate the original holes.

One other question, how did you get to the top nuts, with the tank fitted?

Russ

Hi Chris,

I did think it was the nudge bar itself at first, but it measures up O.k, so it looks like the chassis mounts are in the wrong place.

Cheers

Russ

Wont' work!

If you are using the Dax nudge bar you will need to modify (Elongate the holes) that and drill a fresh pair of holes further outboard on the off side of the chassis. This will align the over riders better with the sides oof the boot lid.

Hi Dave,

do you mean modify the nudge bar itself, or the chassis mounts?

Russ
