Door Locks

I made a mistake today that I haven't made in a while - I opened the dax manual!

On the door locks it suggests to make up a backing plate to go inside the door. This is then tapped in 4 places and the lock attaches to it. I have used 4 x 4mm cap heads with nylocs - it all seems pretty firm and I can't see it moving anywhere soon.

Is the backing plate really necessary or is my system fine?

Thanks guys,

Jon

The backing plates come with the door locks usually....If the locks are bought from Dax.
However, I have not had any yet that have had the pre drilled holes tapped out.

got them from Europa - no backing plates as far as I can tell, although I will have another look in the box. Are they essential?

Hi jon.
They don't go amiss. They help spread the load on the inner door skin. You could use repair/spreader washers.
The plates are a Dax item and are not supplied with the locks from anywhere else that I am aware of.
By having a plate that is drilled and tapped it makes (As I'm sure you are now aware) fitting the latches much easier. And you can open out the holes in the door skin and the latch can be easily loosened slightly and re tightened to make fine tuning the mechanism and the wat the door closes much much easier.
