Gearbox removal

Dax with Tremec gearbox.

Tried a search of the forum with no luck.

Does anyone know (or done it) the quickest and easiest way to take the gearbox out, can it be removed leaving the engine in or is it easier to take engine and box out together.
Any suggestions gratefully received, thanks.

Not done it with a Tremec but have had my ZF 6 speed in and out a couple of times, easiest way I found was to take off the steering wheel, undo the nuts holding the dash in place and remove dash after undoing wiring multiplugs, remove tunnel, undo propshaft from diff and remove then undo box from engine/mounts, slide back and lift out. Engine stays in place but will need supporting at the back. As the 6 speed is a large box I would im agine the Tremec would be as easy if not easier and the advantage is that you do not disturb the engine connections, exhausts, water etc. Hope that is of help, cheers, Simon

When I recently stripped my car prior to painting I did exactly the same. It is tight at the rear though as you have to angle the gearbox up first before pulling the input shaft out. This is with a SBC and Tremec.

John

Why did you have to remove the gearbox to have the car painted

Sorry Mike, does sound a bit odd doesn't it.

I'm taking it to Tim Adams place to have it set up properly as I have never been totally happy with the way it has run.

Thanks for that Simon,

Hopefully not in the near future but at some point I will have to do the above when it comes time to recondition, etc.
