Carb questions

A few questions re my Holley carb (supplied new with Chevy small block by Brian Nichols of RePower). Firstly, can someone tell me if the outlet pipe at the bottom of the carb (see lower middle of pic) is the vacuum take off for the brake servo? The manual calls it a 'PCV Port'. Secondly, the carb seems to have a manual choke. Is this ignored or do you locate a cable discreetly under the dash? Thirdly, on the left of the pic is the DAX throttle cable. Have I mounted the bracket correctly? It gives the right line but the return spring provided is much too short. Perhaps that is for the pedal end? Also, DAX supplied a stud. Is this to replace the existing one of four holding the carb to the manifold so that the thread is long enough to accomodate the bracket?

More questions later on sensors but that's enought for now. Thanks

Bob

1. The throttle cable is on correctly. Had the same problem fitting the spring on mine so made up a bracket and fitted a second spring as well.

2. The port in your picture is to connect to the PCV, which is a valve which should be located on one of your rocker covers.

3. opinions differ but by far the vast majority of people don't connect up the choke and in fact remove as much of the mechanism as is poss.

Mike. Yep, Edelbrock it is - senior moment. Craftsman? You decide when you see my finished car next year.

Tinka. Thanks for your helpful comments. But I'm still not sure about the PCV. Do you know what it stands for? And if this port does not provide a vacuum for the servo can you say where I pick up the vacuum for the servo?

Thanks - Bob

Bob. PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation You should have a capped port (or two) in the manifold that you can use for the servo takeoff. Alternately the Edelbrock has another capped port at the front that you can use.

Hi Bob.
I'll jus tie up all the other replies.
The port on the picture is usually used for the servo and there is another one at the front of the carb for the PCV valve. (PCV valve is something sticking out of one of your rocker covers (Probably the on on the passenger side on your engine with a 3/82 bore hose coming from it).
The longer stud is for swapping with the original stud in the carb base so there is enough thread to attach the throttle cable bracket that you have pictured.
The spring fits from a tiny hole in the throttle cable bracket to a small hole in bent plate on the throttle arm at the bottom(The throttle cable attaches to the top of this same plate using the nipple supplied with the cable). It will foul the cholke mechanism but will still work fine even though it brushes against it.
As said above you could remove all the cholke stuff as they can be more trouble than they are worth which would leave the return spring a clean run.

RE: "Craftman"
This would only count if you'd thought out all your solutions on your own.

Having said that, I had been thinking that you were asking questions about your build months or even years before you needed to know but it is now dawning on me that you are actually motoring ahead with your build at a pace that is far more rapid than the norm on here.
Keep at it. And good luck.

You can use this capped off port for the brake servo.

Mike and Mike.
If the carb has come from Repower (It does look that way) The pictures here show an additional vac port that Repower add. The original one should still be on the front of the carb.
