Rear Lower Wishbones

Hi all,
Just want to check this out..
When i pass the fulcrum pin through the wishbone/diff and into the chassis (standard) there does not seem to be enough thread to come right through the nyloc.Does this seem ok?

Thanks
Mark.

if this is spotted by the SVA inspector it will fail you need at least 2 complete threads out of the nyloc

This is what bothers me.The nyloc is 15mm in depth, there is no washer just the thickness of the chassis.....can i get a shallower nut???
I have this problem in a couple of places where i have used Jaguar nuts and bolts, i expected those to be ok but now im not sure.

Mark either longer bolts or cut the nut down slightly although if you go that way be very careful that the loss of material will not compremise the efficiecency of the nut

Mark, that doesn't sound right. You will need 2 threads showing past the nut to pass SVA. Are you talking about the long pin with threads at both ends? I seem to remember that mine went through the spacer plate, chassis and the diff brackets with more threads showing at one end than the other.
I had to stop the pin from turning and unwind one lock nut until there was equal thread past the nut at each end. It's made more difficult to judge as one end is inside the rear chassis member and you need a torch to see whats going on inside. You need 3 pairs of hands to get all the thrust washers, seals and gubbins lined up as well

Im just about to change my diff so I'll be having this fun for the second time (?)

cheers

Yes thats the ones Nick, the trouble is the hole in the chassis mount is only big enough for the threaded part of the pin as the pin is tapered . So the maximum amount of thread i can get through this is about 13mm and thats the problem...Maybe the holes needed drilling out???

Don't drill the holes out. The parallel part of the bolt should not pass through the hole. You could try counter sinking the hole slightly but dont forget there is a thick plate that goes on the back of the diff which also needs nut's on it.
I cant remember what mine looks now but I do remember I used threadlock as well on the bolts and I installed rubber blanking grommets on the ends of the tubes. I did this as the powder coating inside the tubes was thinner than the rest of the chassis and I didn't want water getting in there and sitting at the bottom.
I found some nice rubber grommets and held them in place with a smear of silicone sealer. I was not asked to remove them at the SVA test.

Craig.

Thanks for the help, i have spoken to a cousin at Jaguar who said he has the same nuts at 13mm depth, at least this will improve the situation.

Its not easy but sometimes necessary. !!!!!!!!!!!!

Andy, that's just what I wanted to hear!!! Not....

I'l have to take the interior/seats/tunnel covers, battery, fuel tank etc out to iget the 3.54 diff in. Oh deep joy!

There was I thinking a 2.88 PL diff would be OK when I built the car. Oh well you live and you learn.

When I got the car on the road initally I thought it was fast. Now 500 miles later I've got used to it and want MORE acceleration. A case of too much is not enough I think!

Cheers
