Dax Side-pipe mounting.

Been sorting the headers and side-pipes on the Dax and have come up with a small problem. Dax sent me two 'Spreader plates' that go under the seats. Two holes are drilled through the plate, the floor and the side-pipe mounting bracket and all bolted together.

The question is: Have you guys fitted these spreader plates along the floor, front to back, or across the car, left to right? Or have you just cut the mounts and welded them to the outer chassis rail and be done with it?

Any other way of fitting these?? Thanks for your comments in advance.

They fit across the car. One hole goes through the seat rail mounting bolts and the other one I put into the outer chassis rail with a 8mm Rivnut.

I can take pictures when I get back home this evening if it would help.

Craig.

Cheers Craig. Pictures would be a great help. No hurry as I will not be able to get to the Cob for a few days.

Thanks again

As promised here is a picture of my sidepipe mounting plate.

I fitted the sidepipes to the headers then propped the back end of the pipes up on blocks of wood to get the final position. Fit the rubber block and the plate then mark and drill the chassis where the plate fits.

I have 3 bolts holding it on. One was the inner mounting bolt marked through the pre-drilled hole in the mounting plates.
The outer fixing is into the box section chassis through a large rivnut.
The other fixing is the bolt that hold the seat runner in position.

You may notice that the plates don't sit exactly parallel with the chassis member but angle slightly backwards. This was the best position to mount them without putting strain on the pipes or the rubber mounting block.

The stainless steel dome nuts on the mounts I added as I proffered the look of them to the standard nut and washer.

Craig.

Thanks Craig. That seems to have answered my question. I wish my Dax looked as pretty as that underneath...

In good time my boy. In good time.

Just had to strip out the steering column and reposition it due to a measurement error. Lower column making contact with No8 header pipe. Arrrrr.

a) Had to remake a steel plate that fits on the inside of the foot well and fill the old holes. A real bitch as I had remade the footwell to get rid of the other 25 attempts the builder had made to fit this.

b) Mr Leaky is tucked up in the garage! Wilwood slave in the process of being sorted. Modified release arm and now need to make up some sort of mount that can be fitted to the box or bellhousing.

c) The Classic.......Hmmm. Can't commit to this at the moment and don't want to mess Andy about. Cob may well be running by then but will be a liability.
