Andi. If this is the correct dipstick for your engine then you should find relevant marks near the bottom to indicate low and high levels. If there are no marks then fill up with the correct amount of oil (see recent thread on this subject - just over 5 litres if I remember), wait for it all to settle then note level on diptsick. Make a physical mark at this point and you then have your correct fill level indicator.

What sort of information do I need to select a good set of spark plugs? I have Champion RV17YC in there at the moment and Halfords seem to get confused if it isn't in their list of cars

Also I see a lot of US Cobras with high back rally style seats, most UK ones seem to have the low back style are there any reasons why high back seats aren't used in the UK?

Still loads of questions to come

Cheers.

Andi.

Hi Andi, still hard at it are we? Seem to remember that Paul got those plugs after talking to Reel Steel and they were suitable to run that motor with the Nos kit. I could be wrong, but try giving them a ring. Their catalogue is in the boot.................

As for the seats, most Cobs seem to use the low backed variety so that they are in keeping with the original, ( unlike my Chevy motor before someone kicks off ) but in the US I have been led to believe that in some states these high back versions are required under state law. Something like SVA requirement. I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm or dispel this.

LOMONDBOB.......Quick question. What rubber pipe did you use from your brake res to the master cylinder please?

Dipstick

I see that you have put your dipstick in facing forwards. The problem with that is that when the motor is whirring around the dipstick wiggles and can get caught up in the crank. It should be installed withthe stick straight up and there should be another tube on the inside of the engine. I actually keep the stick in the trunk and plug the tube with a rubber.

Slogger. I wondered what pipe to use too but in the end I went back to DAX for their set up. The pipe is clearly a special material and Dax supply a 'certificate' to verify that it is SVA approved.

I'm not quite sure what you are getting at Slither. The dipstick is in a tube that slots in a hole at the bottom of the block and bolts to the side. I think it can only fit one way. Then the dipstick is pushed ion the tube. I'll see if I can get a better picture of how it will fit.

Cheers.

Andi.

PS Slogger, I was looking at these guys for fuel and oil rubber hose. They also do coloured Silicone coolant hose

Cheers mate. The brake fluid hose has been an ongoing problem for years. I have two lots of this hose supplied by Jag parts specialists but after a short time, 6 month to a year, this weeps which is not good. Another hose type I have takes longer to start weeping but turns the brake fluid black!! Then an orange gel forms which caused a problem with the master cylinder. I have an E type series 2 / 3 setup with and XJ6 res.

Next question(s) guys

Front brakes are all back together and I started looking at the brake pipes. From the front calliper to the flexible hose seems a bit short and twisty have I made a blunder or is this real? See Pic.

Secondly, I have no details of the master cylinder, what goes where? Are the top holes for the feed from fluid reservoir, two side ports are bleed valves and the two underneath are front and rear, either way around. See Pic. Where do I fit the brake switch I have? I'm beginning to think the brake plumbing is a bit more involved.

The 1997 Dax manual I have is not that detailed

Cheers.

Andi.

No bleed valves required in the master cylinder.

Two top ones to the reservoir. One to the rear brakes. Two to the front brakes and one to the brake light switch.

I will have a look later and let you know which one is which.

Craig.
