Heres the page from the later manual showing the cylinder connections.

Photo of my front brake connections too.

The flexible pipe runs into the bottom of the bracket to prevent rubbing on the tyre. Check the copper pipe when fitted cant get crushed between the calliper and the wishbones on full lock as clearance is tight.

Craig.

Ah! Thanks Craig, I can see now, I was worried about the pipe getting crushed so I'll be careful with that. I have to make quite a tight turn from the calliper! Do you guys use a pipe bender of any sort or is it easy to bend brake pipe without it distorting?

I don't have 'proper' wheels at the moment so I wasn't thinking that the flexible pipe would touch anything.

Cheers.

Andi.

PS I have an ever increasing respect for you guys that built your cars with the early manuals and especially those that would have done so without the Internet and digital cameras

No problem Andi

Any more questions or pictures required please ask.

Pipe benders are available but I managed bending by hand and rolling the pipe around round objects such as screw drivers or file handles.

I think I need to contact Dax and get an updated manual. One of the things that I'm having trouble with at the moment is what do the bits do that I already have. Having bought the car part built I was handed a number of very useful things but I'm not quite sure whether I'm just missing some instructions or missing the point

A couple of examples - I found the items in the attached pic with the brake pipe kit and had no idea what they were for, having seen Craigs picture from the manual I can see where some of them go, but why don't both front and rear use the adapters?. The copper rings and rubber bungs though I still am not sure about. On the second picture of the rocker covers there show on and two holes, on one side there's an Edelbrock chrome plug (vent maybe?) and a connector to the carburettor, the other cover has one insert that goes, I don't know where.

Hopefully as I move forward in the build I'll understand more about what goes where and hopefully a newer build manual will be helpful.

Cheers for now.

Andi.

It looks like the manual has changed at some point,(just checked mine after seeing the pic that Craig posted) because in mine there is no adaptors connected between the rear brake pipe and the master cylinder, My rear brake pipe screwed straight into the master cylinder. Is this because i have the de dion? , have dax changed the end fitting on the rear pipe, or have i done it wrong? i don't think i have as the brakes have been filled and bled with no leaks!

Russ

Your probably right Russ.

Although my build manual shows all those adapters and I was supplied with them, all my brake pipes screwed straight into the master cylinder. I have the XJS type chassis but it still uses the same master cylinder.

The only adapters I needed were for the brake light switch.

Craig.

I was also supplied with all the adaptors, and have spent ages scratching my head trying to work out what the spare ones are for. My box of "not needed parts" seems to be getting bigger by the day!!.

I didn't use any of those copper washers either.

The first cut! Well hole actually, I've managed to use a Dremel+attachment to make a pilot hole in the stainless steel engine bay and enlarge some with a normal drill to 6mm for the brake pipe holders. However in some instances I can't get a standard 6mm drill anywhere near the pilot hole or a 6mm bit in the Dremel.

So, any ideas how I enlarge a pilot hole in a difficult to access area? As you can see from the pictures the remaining holes I need to expand are blocked by the engine

I'll have a lot of trouble on the chassis for the rear pipes.

Cheers.

Andi.
