Questions arising

Rather than start a new thread for each question I think I'll ask them here.

These might sound a bit daft and please no rude answers.

1. Where do I stick the dip stick? 1980 Chevy 350, engine was installed when I got the kit and I have a chrome dipstick but where on earth does it go? I've ordered an engine manual but I thought there might be a picture here somewhere.

2. Brake fluid reservoir. The Dax manual says use a remote reservoir but I'm sure the master cylinder is supposed to have one attached. Again any pictures?

Before I get too embarrassed I'll stop here.

Andi.

Andi,

The oil dip stick on mine is about half way down on the left hand side entering the block below the line of the cyclinder head. Mine has a chrome housing that pressure fits into the block. Your's may not have been fitted making it difficult to identify.

The reservior for the brake and clutch fits as high as possible on the engine side of the cockpit bulkhead sensibly near to the clutch cylinder and brake servo. I used chrome tubing over the bolts to move the mounting bracket out from the lip of bonnet to allow for easy access to the reservior cap.

Regards

SJ

Pics would be good especially where it enters the engine. I have a chrome tube with the dipstick which looks like it press fits. Picture attached.

Thanks.

Andi.

Near side under the rear spark plug on mine, but I believe that some 350 Chevy's had them fitted on the off side.

Dip stick issue looks as if all ok now ?
ref the reservoir fluid - no matter if remote or attached, the lowest point of the reservoir should be higher than the highest point of the master cylinder.
basic fluid dynamics - if the reservoir fluid level falls below the master cylnder inlet then a low fluid level could permit air into the system.
A master cylinder with reservoir attached is usually the best way to go as it eliminates any additional pipe work or fittings that could cause leaks or trap air. Downside is usually the size where space may be limited. suspect thats why its recommended to use a remote as this can be located somewhere more accessable for filling

Thanks for the brake pictures, it's all clear now I know what I have to do.

I've attached a pic of the dipstick temporarily placed in it's hole. As a matter of interest how are these things calibrated ?

Cheers.

Andi.
