Gunsons Easibleed

Left to do before applying for SVA :-

Fit carpets
Rebleed brakes
Adjust handbrake
Have engine checked by Mike Huddart
Are bonnet scoop mesh, heat sheild for brake servo and side vent louvres necessary for SVA

I bought the gunsons easibleed kit at stoneleigh only to just find out that the dax brake fluid reservoir filler cap is much bigger than the caps provided by gunsons...unless I'm trying it incorrectly. Any suggestions ??

Gunsons do a series of "Non preferred" caps which can be ordered through Halfords. (Unfortunately, you cannot order direct)

Had exactly the same problem, my easi-bleed came with a load of caps, none of which fitted!

Went round a massive scrappy with my reservoir in hand, still didn't find one that fitted. Bled manually in the end!

If you find a cap that fits please post as I'd like to get one myself.

I didn't use the easi bleed kit because I had the same problem. Used another form of bleeding kit though that was meant to do the job just as well (bit of tube with one way valve as far as I can tell). See previous posts, but in short the only way I managed to do it in the end was the old fashioned way - 3 people makes it very easy - one to pump, one at the bleed nipple and one at the reservoir.

The Jag system does seem to require a lot of bleeding though - took forever on mine.

Same problem here, I bought the universal cap for the easi bleed and ended up with a floor covered in brake fluid. The tyre pressure was well below the 20 max but still it was too much for the strap over cap. I may try Halfords for the right sized cap as it would be great if it worked. Any idea what size the Dax cap is?

I've ended up with a Draper system that has a 'non return' slice in a silicone pipe. Works OK so that I at least have some brake pressure. It will need some more bleeding later as I was still seeing some small bubbles.

Andi.

Clive,
The filler neck measures 55mm o/d on the reservoir. I phoned Gunsons to discuss, but they said I would have to order a multi-adaptor cap and use that. I'm reluctant at about £14

All that messing about with caps is a waste of time! (If one fits, fine use it)

Nobby and I did his brakes with my modified easy bleed. Drain the reservoir totally then remove the pipe that goes from the bottom of the reservoir and connect it to the outlet pipe of the east bleed. You can then use the easy bleed in the normal way.

I have also modified my system so that I can use a pushbike pump rather than messing about with tyres. (You need an old car tyre valve).

Once the system is bled it is possible to re-connect the pipe to the reservoir, make sure that the small amount of air in the pipe works its way up and out of the reservoir.

All of the above worked on Nobbys Dax, it may not work if the pipe from the reservoir to the master cylinder s routed in such a way that any air gets pushed into the system rather than out during the last stage described above.

How about drilling a small hole in your current cap and fit the eeezibleed pipe, when you've finished fit a small grommet in it's place??

That's exactly what I did on the cap for the hydraulic clutch conversion that your suppled to me!

I then drilled a 1mm hole in the grommet as there was a tiny hole in the cap.
