Airman! No. I was a full sup leading hand, I think these days they are called technicians. And yes we are the senior service, only the best of the best can join, the fleet air arm. The rest join the RAF. As for the pliers, My last six months i was in tool control and they had a slight defect and were not safe to use along with several other items

Its surprising how often those top of the range, most expensive money can buy, RR tools so often have those minor defects. You'd have thought after all the experience that they have that they would have been able to resolve these quality control issues by now. The chap who taught me machining at school left RR Leavesden and funnily enough he had a number of items that had similar, minor quality issues. Removed for health and safety reasons obviously!
