Question Dax De-Dion Radiator

Hi guys..

getting to the point of wanting to fit the radiator and am balking a bit at the £380 +VAT for the DAX aluminium radiator, i remember seeing a post regarding alternatives (possibly vitesse??) but cant find it.

any ideas or info on an alternative and where i could get one from would be vaery usefull.

many thanks.

I would say bite the bullet and buy the Dax one, comes with cert to say its been tested for leaks etc. (not leeks). I tried going direct to a manufacturer to get one (GM Radiators) and it was going to be ALOT more than that.

If you think thats expensive you're obviously not that far into the build. i kept thinking in the begining....i can source stuff myself from other people or the suppliers direct or from a scrappy and to be honest in the long run all it did was just cost me more money and time and i've had to go back to Dax every time. Wait till you get to stuff like Wheels and Exhausts ans petrol tanks and electric packs and brightwork kits your bank statement will be peppered with £1000-£2000+ entries

Just as an alternative, if you can pick up a Rover SD1 Vitesse (3 row) rad off ebay, you should be able to get it recored at a local rad specialist for c£100, then it is a good as new.

I make the somewhat rash assumption that that specific rad fits the Dax, I know it does my Crendon, and provides ample cooling for a 408 stroker.

have got far enough into the build to shell out some serious cash, didn't think the petrol tank was that bad?! Just seems a lot of cash for a rad that apparently springs leaks easier than fertile Welsh ground......

had just thought about buying a recon'd alternative but maybe its not worth it...

I've been around here long enough to see multiple posts on the failure of the Dax Alloy Rad (I even helped change one) Do yourself a favour as Wilf said and go for a 3 core SD1 Vitesse (about £180 from AK )

I would, and did go with the ally rad and so far it has been fine.

It can be fitted with rubber spacers under it to allow a bit of movement against vibration and never use those stupid ties that go through the radiator to hold the cooling fan on. They are just asking for trouble.

Another thing with the ally rad is they do look nice

Craig.

At £380+vat You could buy two SD1 rads, Carry one as a spare, and still have change for a tankfull of juice! Kelly Brookes looks nice! But you wouldn't want to buy one!

I don't know whether there are any left but Dax did have a few steel radiators left which are a cheaper option. Not as light but that's only really relevant for serious track use and from what I understand the steel ones are more reliable.
