The IVA manual states that the distance from the top of the seat to the bottom of the headrest should be no more that 50mm in the case of a fixed seat.
Even less for a sliding seat (don't remember the figure but it doesn't make sense)
Therefore you will either need to make your headrest very long so it nearly meets the seat without fouling the seatbelts or fit different seats.
I bought a pair of seats from midland wheels services recently.

The blue race ones were a very good price.
I actually had to dismember them and remove about 2in from the width to get them to fit one of my Aston replicas but i would have thought they would be pretty easy to fit into a cob.

Hi Andy.
There is no difference with seats that are on runners, it is of the headrests are height adjustable. If they are then the max gap from the base of the headrest to the top of the seat when the headrest is in its lowest position is 25mm.
Fixed height headrests are 50mm.

This is the bit where just fixing them to the roll bars will not suffice.

Sie.
Are ther not two steel tubes running up the back of the Richfield seats under the vinyl/leather? If so then drill and tap then and fabricate a bracket from them to mount the headrest onto.

However having checked them against the IVA height requirement even those seats would fail, so its either find another taller OE seat, butcher an aftermarket seat or purchase a full price bespoke seat.

Hence I'm off to the scrappies with a tape measure yet again......

Cheers,

There are some really tasty seats out there, its just this Iva lark that spoils them. Think we need some cheap and chearfull bucket seats for IVA then sommit more comfortable

Like your thinking! - yes the are two steel tubes, have you tried this method for an IVA?? if so what size headrests would you recommend?

Thanks to all for your replies on this one.

Cheers
Simon

Just in case you didn't follow my link to the midand wheels site,
they are on sale at £55 ea plus the vat etc. Pretty good value I thought and they will meet the height requirements plus you could probably ebay them on afterwards.

Hi Simon.
You will probably need to fabricate them. they will need to be 175mm wide and the top of it needs to be at least 750mm above the seat cushion. I had a problem because my first set had flat tops and the tester said there was a risk of the harness belts resting on the top of them. So I made some more that were rounded on the top. (Making sure they were still 175mm wide and the 750mm height point).
They do not need to be padded, you can just radius the edges to 5mm.

I was thinking of something like this:-

Using some steel/stainless tube (Diamiter would depend on wall thickness). (Narrow thick wall would be easier to bend without deformation).

Thanks Dave!

I'm off to the garage to make a start!

I've got some foam and spare leather somewhere so it looks half decent, failing that I've defo got some leopardskin
