Dax Epas Power Steering

Ok I know some think power steering is a bit Gay!

However I’ve got it – not from Dax due to the extortionate price – it’s a EPAS corsa column I picked up from a scrap yard – I got the EPAS unit modified by the same firm that Dax use and brought the switchgear housing from dax so using the standard sierra switches, all works a treat in all cost me about £200 v the £1000+ Dax wanted

Question for you other Dax owners with it – what do you do for a horn push – have you gone dash mounted? as I can't see a way of using a centre horn push or am I missing something?

Any info most appreshiated

Simon.

Yeah Simon definitely Gay like EFI etc (until you have to move the steering when the car's stationary - then it seems worthwhile )

My horn push is on one of the column stalks? Left side I think.

But a centre horn push would work on my setup as well?

Which firm modified your EPAS control unit? As i'd like mine looked at.

£200 quid versus £1000. I'm miffed I didn't do the same thing

Hi Nick

My Cob is double gay then I've got EFI aswell

I'll dig the invoice out when I get home and post the details, there's a couple of people on fle bay selling the SGU boxes do a search under Corsa steering.

Any idea what your stalk with the horn push is off? I'm told the mk3 escort matches the sierra wiring? or are you using the corsa stalks? I just can't see how to rig up the centre horn push with the sierra bracket and stalks. do you have any pictures of your set up?

Cheers

Simon.

Yeah I'm guilty on both counts as well. EPAS and EFI

The stalks are the Sierra early ones (MK1 I think) - square hazard switch - I'll see about some pics tomorow. I got a spare pair from the breakers recently but never used them.

I was thinking of sending my EPAS ECU back to get it modded to make the varaible assistance more noticable - i.e almost off to full on. But Dax want £300 for the pleasure so an alternative supplier (read "Cheaper") would be great.

Nick

The Dax suppliers are: DC Electronics 01621 856451 Welcome to dc electronics

this could be an option but not tried one so not sure if it will give you any additional adjustment:

Corsa rally kit Escort Electric Power steering Control on eBay (end time 20-Jul-09 09:36:25 BST)

If you have a spare Sierra Mk1 Indicator stalk with a horn push I'll gladly take it off your hands!

Cheers

Simon.

Cheers

Nobby,

Did you get any joy in sorting out your control box to give more adjustability?

I am in the same situation (with a control box that gives virtually no adjustability) and would like to get some more adjustability if it is possible.

Dax did say they had been working on this (when I last spoke to them ages and ages ago!!) but I haven't asked the question recently.

Same question from me!
I fitted the corsa c epas to my Ram but with the electronics for a rally company in Ireland. Anyway the assistance dial/resistor makes no difference.
Could it be as simple as getting a dial (variable resistor) with more or less resistance?

ACCORDING TO THE DC ELECTRONICS SITE

the corsa ccolumn has minimal sensitivity to adjustment....so i dont think it can be amended by much.

what they do have is a speed sensor which turns the unit on and off at certain speeds, so pas when parking, no pas at speed.....
