Question Fitting boot

Has anyone else (especially Dax Builders) had this problem, look at the attached photo, the boot lid seems to bend in further than the bodywork of the car.

Around the top of the boot lid and the sides, the boot is flat with the body work, this only appears to be along the bottom

Any comments/help would be appreciated.

Mine fitted quite flush, boot slightly proud of the body if anything. Have you fitted the rubber seal yet? It may prevent the boot from closing so far, obviously this may have a knock on effect on the shut lines of the rest of the boot.

Regards
John

Geoff,

It will take a bit of fiddling to get right but you should be able to get it with some adjustment of the latch and hinges. I had to make some spacers to change the angle of the latching plate on the boot floor. The main problem with mine was the curve on the top of the boot which dipped the top corners below the profile of the body but raised the centre section higher (I think the manual even mentions this), just pack the sealing strip with a piece of rubber cut from a small diameter hose (petrol hose for example), place it under the lip of the seal and it will stop it compressing so easily at the point. Seems a bit of a bodge but works fine and is not noticable.

Looks about right, as the others say, it all needs fettling.

Little tip from many years of working these sort of faults, dont be too keen to build up the edge of the boot lid to make it fit. Always try and build up the return into the aperture as this will be less noticeable than a thick uneven edge to a boot lid or door.

Hi Geoff,

as mentioned, the sealing strip does push out the boot quite a lot so do any tweaking with that in place. You can obviously fiddle with the location of the hinges and the boot latch to get it as close as possible.

Mine wasn't totally perfect when it went for paint, looked similar to yours. It looked pretty good when it came back so I presume from that, that the bodyshop will also be able to improve the shutlines to create the final effect.

Hi guys

As suggested, I did fit the rubber seal, I thought that was what the problem was, I think I'll leave it and allow the bodyshop to get it right

Cheers

Jesus, your moaning about that!!!!! you should have seen mine!! bottom was in much more than yours and both edges at the top were sunken in. I ended up fitting it and packing it out then getting it really hot with IR heat lamps to soften it up, then let it cool down...this proceedure took me about 5 goes to get it acceptable enough...it was BAD. Yours will be easy to correct
