    Steering column bush replacement

    Hi all,

Who has fitted on of these in place of the Ford Aluminium bracket?

    Bearing part No. SLFL25 from

    Revolution Seals & Bearings Ltd
    Unit J, Houndswood Gate
    Harper Lane, Radlett
    WD7 7HU

    Supporting the steering shaft

There is far too much play in my bush (Hmm.... sure there is a joke there) and I'm considering replacing it with a SLFL25.

Does anyone have any photos of one fitted?
Is there enough rotation from the spherical outer of the bearing to bolt the two retaining plates directly to the bulkhead or do I need to fabricate a plate like the existing Dax item to hold the new bearing?

    Cheers
    John

Chezzer, Noel, and myself have fitted them on our Sumo's in the bulkhead instead of the crappy rubber and plastic bush thing that comes off the Ford Sierra. It's a bit of work to fit the bearing but once its done no more wobbly steering column!

    Thanks guys,

That Photo confirms what I thought , bolt it straight to the bulkhead.

I've just sent Revolution an E-mail to get cost and then I'll be ordering one.

    Regards
    John

Here's a pic of one in my Robin Hood which shows it will easily meet the angle you will require.

Cheapest place I could find was here Bearing Boys :: for all your bearing and power transmission needs :: SKF Ball Bearings, Vee & Wedge Belts

Just to be different I bolted my bearing to the aluminium bracket supplied by Dax. I already had the holes in the bulkhead for that anyway so I didn't want them to be visible.
The bearing will fit on the aluminium bracket if it's mounted at an angle across the plate and it keeps it more in line with the column.

I'll take pictures some time if you like.

If I remember correctly I bought and fitted to my old Sumo the exact same bush from RS spares!

Yes, as you can see from my picture the original holes are still there.
