Dax transmission tunnel and dash problems

i got 2 problems ,,,some would say more than that ?

the dash i received from DAX as you can see has a piece broken off
i presume this is not right and i should of complained at the time
when it was sent to me but it,s way to late for that as it was 20 years a go.
will the broken piece be a problem when it comes to fit the dash ?
and is the back of the dash supposed to have plastic spacers on the back !

second problem is the transmission tunnel dont fit
i have a mk3 chassis that i modified to mk4 chassis by fitting the back bone brace supplied by DAX

my body is a mk4 1991 and was supplied with the transmission tunnel at the time
at the dif end where the back bone brace fits to the chassis the bars are about 10 inch apart
but the fiberglass tunnel is only about 6 1/2 inches wide at that point

so is their a different transmission tunnel for a mk4 body with a back bone brace fitted ?

The one I got from memory looked quite a bit wider than that at the rear, worth asking Dax. However I have to say the fit was comically bad when I received it from Dax. I had to make extensive modifications to the tunnel to get it to fit at all.

That bit is supposed to be on the end of the dash but it could simply be rebuilt with glass fibre matting and resin, Looks a different design to the current one though so maybe make another or buy the later version from Dax.

I reckon those plastic tubes are pushed over threads and there to protect the threads from resin whilst being made, Cut around the base with a knife and pull them off then pass the studs through holes in the body to attach the dash.

There is a 2 piece transmission tunnel to the later design available from Dax to cover the backbone brace. Not sure if the front section is a different shape though but if it is, maybe that new dash panel will be needed to match?

You are missing quite a lot of the dash ... most of the steering cut out and right side. Pic attached of my dash being trial fitted.

The current tunnel, front and back, is much wider as per the attached pic ... you can see that the rear part is a pretty poor fit, as Lloyd says! It needed a heat gun and lots of pressure to get it into the proper shape!

Unless you are an ace fibreglass fabricator, I suggest you speak to Dax about the broken dash ... looks like you might need a new replacement ... and whether you can get away with just replacing the rear section of the tunnel. If you need new parts, perhaps they might reduce the cost if you mention goodwill for being a 20 year customer! No harm asking!
