Dax body

I have just started to remove the flash lines from my dax. After rubbing them down it appears that one side of the join along the wing is a fraction higher than the other. So once the flash line has been flatened down there seems to be a slight ridge. The body is going to be painted so i guess i can build it up with filler. Does this sound normal practice

RE: Dax body

Hi,
We've just collected our body from Dax, after taking great care not to damage it on the way home we were disappointed to find the quality was not what we expected.
Same as yours the two halves don't quite match and there are numerous areas which need filling etc. There are also areas which have been roughly sanded down and the grey fibre glass is showing through the GEL coat. After paying extra for a colour I am a little upset to say the least.
The edges around the doors are so bad that there seems to be no point in paying for a colour if you have to rub so much away to get a smooth finish.
I would say that the quality of the finish is a very poor ( rough as a dogs backside)- is this normal?
What was yours like? we had hoped to run it initially in GEL coat colour then get it painted later but I'm afraid there's no chance of that.
Or do we expect too much for our money?
Simon

RE: Dax body

I would say that the Dax shell is pretty much middle of the road, there are a lot worse and at least one that is much much better, that being the GD body.
Dax say that they haven't gone to town on gel coat finnishes as most of their customers get the car painted.

RE: Dax body

Like Dave said, there are better Gel coats around.
Mine was like yours quite patchy so I had to paint it from the off.
otherwise I would have white patches in the black gel coat. as you say annoying when you paid extra.

RE: Dax body

Thanks guys, you've just saved me another £100+ as I now won't bother changing my body order for a coloured shell.
