Another Dax Question! - wheel clearance.

Is it normal for the wheels to hit the anti roll bar on full lock when the chassis is supported on axle stands? I have just received the wheels (17") from Dax so the offset should be correct. Tyres are 235/45. Any ideas.

RE: Another Dax Question! - wheel clearance.

I am not positive, but I seem to remember the same happening to me when I got mine. I am fairly sure you are O.K. as when you get the weight on the car they just miss.

Mike

RE: Another Dax Question! - wheel clearance.

Thanks for the info Mike, also thanks to Dave for his phone help on Thirsday. I asked Dax the question on thursday eveing also but no reply yet. I will try it with the weight on the wheels. One thing I did discover from Dave, his lastest build steering rack had 3 turns lock to lock with 10mm clearance on the anti roll bar, mine has 31/4 turns and no clearance, also very close to the upper wishbone.

Back on its wheels now, and it still hits!! . Anyone know about reducing steering rack travel?

RE: Another Dax Question! - wheel clearance.

I've just fitted a new rack supplied by Dax.
And I dont have any problem with the wheels fouling the anti roll bar, at least not with the car on the ground.
Martin are you sure about your front wheel offset?
BTW I have 17" wheels.

RE: Another Dax Question! - wheel clearance.

Thanks for that. The wheels were supplied by Dax last week, so should be correct, but just to make sure, I did some comparision measurements with the helpful Dave Brookes and the distance from inside of wheel/hub mating surface to rim edge was the same (145mm I recall). What year is your Dax chassis? and if you get a chance could you see how many turns you get lock to lock? I get 31/4 but Dave B's current build had only 3. My chassis (which i bought as a part built last year) is a 1991 Mk3 and the rack as supplied by Dax at the time.

RE: Another Dax Question! - wheel clearance.

Mines a MK4 Dax with a rack supplied a couple of weeks ago.
I'll check out how many turns I have lock to lock.

RE: Another Dax Question! - wheel clearance.

Thanks Kev. I did get a reply from Dax saying that clearances were tight but this should improve once the suspension has been set up. Somehow i think not!! Intend to have a close look at my rack to restrict the travel and if all else fails just have to spend some more money and get a new one.
