DAX Body Fixing

Happy New Year All
I'm about to fix the body to the chassis having first fitted the ally engine bay. I've got the Wurth but have a question on procedure. Is it best to drop the body on the chassis, correctly align, pre-drill through body and chassis rails, remove body, apply Wurth, drop the body back on then rivit & bolt down scuttle?

What preparation do you need to make to the chassis before fixing? Do you need to remove the powder coating from the areas where the Wurth is applied to help adhiesion? Do you need to remove grease etc. with some meths before applying the Wurth?

Help much appreciated

Regards

Richard

RE: DAX Body Fixing

make sure the body sits well on the chassis, and is square all round. I had to clearance a little around the roll bar tubes. Perhaps use mask tape, and make a few marks for critical alignment on chassis

leave the powder coat completely intact.
mask & mark up the chassis according to the dimensions in the build manual
clean with degreaser
apply worth where needed. protect the chassis/body with masking tape in areas where you think worth may get squished out
put on the body, pulling the body hard up against the chassis stops at the end of the footwells & align.
Drill and bolt at the ends of footwells, and a few strategic rivets at ends of runs. keep a rag to clean off the drill bit
Recheck alignment
If you're happy, continue to drill &rivet at end & middle of all rivet runs, and finally infill.

Oh - and get a decent drill bit (and a spare!)and a decent rivet gun

Remove any excess worth before its dry - its not coming off without a grinder once it is

RE: DAX Body Fixing

Fully agree with Steve's comments, my only addition would be to work quickly because you want to get the all the rivets in and pulled down before the Wurth cures which only gives you an hour or so from memory.
It may be slower curing at this time of year?

RE: DAX Body Fixing

Thanks for the advice Guys.
Only an hour to drill and pull all the rivits. That sounds entertaining!

RE: DAX Body Fixing

I guess that as long as you get a few rivets in spread around various parts of the body, then the body will be pulled on to the adhesive, if it cures before you get them all in before it cures don't worry because it will be stuck like sh1T to a blanket.

RE: DAX Body Fixing

Question...

Why not first fitting the body...
drilling...
removing the body and cleaning (removing all the metal parts residu from drilling)...
adding the sticky stuff....
rivetting...

This is the way they build aeroplanes.

Regards,
Andy
