Where do I make my holes for my side pipes?

alright guys,
playing around a bit and noticed I havent got any holes in my body for side pipes so where do I make them?, bearing in mind I havent got any pipes or manifolds yet. Problem is Im going to attempt to make my own manifolds so I need to know where the holes are to match up my manifolds.....

RE: Where do I make my holes for my side pipes?

You'll need to make up your manifolds first I think Ben.
then you can project where they'll go through the body.
Are you using the Dax style 4 into 1 design?

RE: Where do I make my holes for my side pipes?

Hi Kev,

dont think Im gunna go with Dax ones, Im leaning towards a single collector at present, probably from shinybitz...but will have to wait for the funds..

I had hoped that the side pipes would show me where to make up the manifolds to. DOH!

RE: Where do I make my holes for my side pipes?

Hi Ben.
This is how I did mine on the AK,(before I finally fitted the body!)
Loose fitted body to chassis, Fitted sidepipes in desired position and made and fitted required brackets to chassis, this then showed me where to make holes in body, Carefully cut holes in body! even then I got one side slightly wrong and had to rebuild and recut!!! Remove sidepipes and body, refit sidepipes to chassis. Now you can make the headers. Then take it all off again to fit body.
:} :} :}
Cheers

RE: Where do I make my holes for my side pipes?

2 Year's and counting down to D day

Ben,

I am new to using the forum, here goes.

I have made up my own manifolds out of mild steel to line up with the Dax side pipes. To find the best position for the side pipe entry, the side pipes were offered up and the rear mounting fixed.

It was then a case of making up the body and drilling and filing the hole to suit. This was then followed by the manufacture of the manifolds (see attached)

Simon

RE: Where do I make my holes for my side pipes?

Cheers for the info Simon,

they look good the manifolds, how did you go about them?, did you make them from some standard ones or make them from bits?
What sort of welder did you use?
Ive got some headman headers which I intend to cut up and bodge together, bearing in mind I havent done anything like that before Im pretty certain that they will look totally crap! but its only temporary )

cheers

RE: Where do I make my holes for my side pipes?

Ben,

I purchased a small quantity of 1 1/2" manderal bends from custom chrome + a straight length of pipe and flanges.

These were cut into the various sections and tacked welded using a mig welder and offered up to the side pipes and heads.

Once the correct profile was achieved I then bolted up the four pipes per size to a standard cast manifold and sliped the other ends into the side pipes as a jig prior to welding.

I then welded up all joints and ground off with a angle grinder any unsightly welds and sprayed with VHT paint.

Regards,

Simon:9
