Wind deflector hinges - ho to fit them?

Hi Guys

Have just fitted wind deflectors to my Dax, but something is not right on them. I have the perspex towards the 'inside' of the car, ie. the U cross-sction part of the hinge on the outside of the perspex. The mounting block part of the hinges are in the 1st and the 3rdwindscreen mounting holes counting from the bottom. (I'll try and post a picture later).

At the top hinge everything looks OK and the edge of the perspex falls just behind the windscreen mounting pillar - I am happy with that. At the bottom, it is like the mounting block should be longer - the perspex and the pillar overlap. This means the deflector cant swing much before the perspex gets 'squashed'.

What have I done wrong? Suggestions or a picture would be welcome!

TIA

sounds like you've got the wrong bottom hinge blocks.The top should be about 20mm long and the bottom 30mm.i.e. the block should be the width of the pillar when bolted on,as you say 1st and 3rd set of holes

Thanks Steve,

All four blocks are the same length - about 20mm. Ho hum, another phone call to Dax on Monday - they must be getting fed up with me by now!

Hi Stefan.
Dax use the shorter block at the bottom because if the WW were to fold in flat it would catch the door from what i can remember.

Make that 24mm to be exact - Aaaaaghhh. I was beginning to feel very stupid with all my silly questions lately. Was beginning to doubt my engineering capabilities big time

Does that mean that what I have is correct and the deflectors dont fold in? If so, I assume they are incompatible with the sidescreens
(and hence the soft top). I did check with Dax when I bought the wind deflectors and they said they would be fine, because the deflectors go inside the side screens. Not the way they are now they wont! :} :} :}

Dave
You're probly right as mine do touch the body when folded in and have to keep the hinge screws tight to avoid it.

First attempt ever at attaching a photo, so here goes...

You can see that the perspex starts to overlap the pillar about halfway down. This prevents the deflectors folding in.

The side screens for the soft top go inside the wind wings, otherwise at speed they will by sucked out..........Ask Rodders, he knows all about side screens blowing out when you don't tuck them in.!!!!!!!!!}(
