March Newsletter. Cut & Paste job as it won't attach.

the newsletter of the

Cobra Replica Club

East Anglia region 2008

March 2008

Hello all,
Joy & I have returned from our travels. It seems like quite a while since I have rattled this keyboard for the benefit of the club.
Guy reported that January’s meet was a little quiet. He kindly provided the report below and is up for organising a bit of carting. Let’s see what we can sort out at the next meet…
Sorrel Horse meet Jan 20th
As the local rep was unable to be available (Skiing -- Well some body’s got to do it) the host duty fell to me (I was volunteered) to take control of loads of Cobra drivers rattling windows at the January meet at the Sorrel Horse in Barham, just outside Ipswich.
Well this was easy - nobody turned up. I expect they were keeping their pride and joy under wraps, off the salty roads. I have to admit I turned up in the Euro box as fairly major changes are happening to the Sumo.
A change from lap belts to full harnesses, beefing up the diff hanger which hopefully should clear up a banging noise from the rear end when the loud pedal is welded to the floor. And finally a change from 9” to 10” front disc and 4 pot callipers. Bigger horsepower needs bigger brakes!
During the Christmas break Andy and I had talked about organising a Karting event if there was any interest. I have found some detail from the Beccles Raceway which is:-
The track is outdoors and is about a kilometre long.
Arrive & Drive
Pro-karts 15 Minutes £22
2 x 15 Minutes £34
3 x 15 Minutes £47
4 x 15 Minutes £59

Deposit: A £10 deposit is required at the time of booking.

If there is any interest in a racing session rather than a meal for the 15th April or the 18th May (or any other agreeable dates - Andy) please let me know as soon as possible. Please E mail me so that I can organise a booking on - Sign in to BT Yahoo! Online
My thought was that a drive to Beccles followed by two racing sessions then a quick drink and a drive home would be good. This will give you time to save up. Please note - you don’t have to race you can just spectate.
Guy
As I was in Canada last month I did not have time to pen a newsletter and I have yet to hear of the gossip from The Lord Nelson. Doubtless there were hoards of Cobras upsetting the quiet Sunday at Burnham Thorpe or you all stayed in and watched ski Sunday in the hope of spotting your intrepid area rep.
Workshop News
I managed to get the V8 Aston chassis and body both finished before my transatlantic journey. This meant that blasting, powder coating and body paint were completed during my time away whilst Joy & I were enjoying deep, deep Canadian powder. I can now get on with the fun part of the build and see real progress as things go together.
I now have a few discount deals with suppliers and may be able to pass on some of the benefit to members although my VAT registration may dent the advantage a bit. I can source Smiths instruments and upgraded brake packages at some discount as well as very good rates on rod ends. If you have any needs for your build I may be able to piggy back the parts on another order.

Open Day – AS Motorsport Ltd. Poplar Farm, Fersfield Road, Bressingham. IP22 2AP Tel. 01379 688 356.
I will once again be holding an open day at the workshop. Spring open day on Sunday 27th April.
As with previous years, service and inspection facilities will be made available for free and the BBQ will be fired up weather permitting. Ivor & I will be on hand to flip burgers and help grease those nipples. We can arrange to supply service items to order. An idea of how many people wish to use the ramps and what sort of jobs they wish to tackle would be handy. Just drop an email to me.
There has been several folk suggest a swap meet, so go out and clear your shelves of all those bits you thought might just come in handy or were bought by mistake or have been upgraded. If you keep them you may just end up building another car.
There should be a fair bit of Aston stuff to gander at as well. The V8 should still be in residence although I can’t promise rides!
I will extend the invitation to other local car clubs as well.
Dynomometer Power runs at Stoneleigh.
There are places available for club member to rev the proverbials out of their cars at Stoneleigh show. Places are limited and confirmation / payment should be arranged ASAP. Go to Stoneleigh Dyno shoot out update - urgent response required for the relevant forum thread but you may have to log in first.
