Spring Open Day at A S Motorsport.

Hello all,

It is that time of year again. Time to check out where those puddles of oil are coming from and grease those nipples!

Spring Open Day at AS Motorsport Ltd will be held on Sunday 27th April from around mid morning onwards.

The idea is still much the same as before.

The workshop facilities will be available to use or you can just come for a chat with some like minded folk. This is a couple of weeks before Stoneleigh, so can it be a way to check over your car or check out other peoples ideas before getting the plastic out at the show.

There are two ramps and a pit should anyone wish to have a poke around under their car. One ramp is floor flush, so no problems with ground clearance. It would probably be best to let me know if you plan on changing the entire transmission rather than just the oil! Two of us should be on hand to assist with ramps and tools.

BBQ will be on the go weather permitting. I may need a volunteer driver for it though.

There have been several folk suggesting a swap meet, so go and see what you have lurking in the garage. Last time I looked there was nearly a complete 289 in mine.

One change from last year is the formation fo AS Motorsport ltd. to promote and manufacture the Aston Martin DBR2 Replica. I aquired the rights around July last year and have been busy working away on things in that direction since then. Hence AC Engineering has been quietly sidelined since then but I am still available to do work on any specialist cars such as Cobras.

I will be extending the invite to other local car enthusiasts.

So I hope to see some of you on April 27th. At Poplar Farm, Fersfield Road, Bressingham, Diss, Norfolk, IP22 2AP.

Cheers,

Andy Soar

Andy, would it upset anyone if you put details of the DBR2 replica here? Maybe in the Industry News section? I for one would be interested in it.

Nice car, what are the mechanicals, build costs etc.?

BTW, to anyone looking in, I'm not on the books.

Aston DBR2 details

Neil,

There is loads of info at www.asmotorsport.co.uk Thanks Steve for posting the pics and link.

Basic details:

Running gear is based on a Cosworth LSD rear Diff and hub carriers using splined wire wheel adaptors. These are located by a De-dion tube axle that has four trialing arms and a watts linkage for lateral support.

The front is unequal length double wishbones and can accept a variety of uprights. At the moment I am using Ford Cortina uprights with four pot brake package. I am looking at using Wilwood Pro Spindles (Mustang) in the near future but this is dependant on the cost of getting splined hubs made up.

The engine of choice is the Aston Martin 4 litre as fitted to the originals. However, these are a bit rare and the cheaper route is to fit a Jaguar unit.
Several gearbox options can be accomodated.

The standard car uses a GRP body but there is the option to commission an alloy body. Alloy boot bonnet and doors is a nice compromise.

The current build is rather unique. The customer specified a 5.3 litre Aston V8 and gearbox. This has involved a complete chassis redesign. Unfortunately, the customer has had a serious car accident and is unable to proceed with the order. I plan to finish the car off and offer it for sale or place it in a auction such as Goodwood Revival. It should be at a fairly advanced stage of build by the open day but may not be running.

I have no plans to offer the car in component form. A fully built standard car costs from £38000. The V8 was priced at £47900 including the Aston engine and chassis work. This could be open to offers should someone wish to take up the order from the previous customer.

Thanks for your interest & I hope I don't get shot down by the moderators for self promotion!

Hi,

After a busy day of tidying up, I am just about ready to accept folk into my workshops.

BBQ should be on the go from around 1pm ish.

Hope to see some of you there.

Cheers,

Andy

Simon,

Most folk had left by then and those left were having a good poke around the Aston V8 and Kevin's Sumo. I did hear an aircraft about and wondered what you were up to.

Very busy day. Nearly ran out of parking space. Burgers all gone shortly before most people left. Maybe those two points are related.

I didn't manage to get any pics but Steve did. Maybe he will post here.

Surprisingly, there were no takers for the ramps. Except Ivor's 'Rod, which was having a bit of fuel trouble.

Many thanks to all those that came. Sorry I didn't really have the time to chat properly to everybody.

Andy.

Your bbq was all very nice too, thanks again. i ment to ask you if you could advise me on how to adjust the mixture on my cob. its running a bit rich(i think)through an Edelbrock 600,is this somthing you can do or where can i get it tweeked ?? I'm not much of a mechanic so wouldn't want to tamper with it myself.
All the best , Gavin.
