Con Rod Bolts RV8

Another quick question before I break something...

I'm trying to get the standard con rod bolts off the con rods (funny that but they seem to be stuck fast, smacking them with my trusty mallet and there not even thinking about moving.

So the question is I'm abit worred about damaging the piston head if i put the lot on the bench and get a bigger hammer or is there a better way of doing this?

thanks

Craig.

Re: Con Rod Bolts RV8

Craig,

why are you trying to remove them? The std bolts are press fit in the rod and provide location for the cap - the cap is machined fully torqued up and as a matched pair with the rod it came off and cannot be mixed. If you removing them to replace with ARP or the like don't bother, the std bolts are good for any thing but a full race engine pulling constant high rpm for long periods.

My advice is leave them alone, just clean up with the rest of the rod.

Russ

Russ

Thank you again, I thought they were an replace once undone as they stretch with use. I'll just get back to scrubbing things up again.

Craig.
