top end rattles....

Hello folks,

I`ve just finished rebuilding the top end of my RV8. Originally there were no shims under the rocker pedestals, I first noticed a broken rocker pad on the left bank,
when the head was removed it looked as if some of the valves were not closing properly, the right hand bank looked good.

When the engine was re-assembled I checked the lifters and they all looked as if both banks needed shims (about 35 thou).

Now when the engine is started there is a lot of noise from the right bank top end which can take about 10 mins of running to clear. The left bank rattles slightly but soon clears.

Could the 35 thou shims be giving too much clearance and causing noise, bearing in mind the right bank was ok. The rattle is heard more when the throttle is blipped
and is definately coming from the top end.

Has anyone experienced this rattle and found there to be too much clearance?

Any advise would be welcome,

Cheers guys,
