which gearbox???

Hi guys,
im a total novice mechanically....dont know the difference between a gearbox & a loaf of bread.
Ive been offered a tr8 gearbox & bellhousing for daft money. The gearbox works fine without whines or rattles (apparently). Is this a viable alternative to the lt77 which isnt as strong if the seller is to be believed. Can i have an impartial opinion from you guys please???

thanks in advance

Andy

Yes Digger you are correct TR7/8 are all LT77 apart from the early model which were Dolomite cr-pp together with there axle.

I use the later box which is an R380 but nothing wrong with the LT77, which was also fitted on Rover SD1 and things like Sherpa vans etc.

One word of warning don't run it on Auto fluid / Power steering fluid, use a proper gear oil, hypoid 80/90 as if you do and give it some serious track day stuff it will break !! Osgood.
