oil change

I am about to do an oil change, Ford 302, do i need to prime the oil pump first or is it okay to crank her on the starter, also would it be beneficial to use a flushing oil aswell.
Regards , Colin.

If its just an oil change I don't see why you need to do anything special.

Just drive the car for a few miles to get the oil hot, drain it and pour in the new stuff.

If your changing the filter its worth trying to fill it with oil first. I've heard that on the RV8 lump it is best not to change the filter whilst the sump is empty as it can cause the pump to be drained of oil. (This could be an old Wifes' tail)

If your starting the motor for the first time ever then thats a different matter, you should prime the system but not be cranking the motor on the starter!. The spinning the pump via the dizzy hole works very well.

By the way Valoline 20/50 non synth is the stuff to go for.

All JMHO!

Regards,

Pete

I always prefill the filter, and turn the engine over on the starter with the ignition disabled until the oil light goes out after refilling with new oil.

If you want to be 110% fussy, take the plugs out before you start to turn it over on the starter.
