| Rover V8 - Oil Pressure Hi All, Can anyone advise on what the minimum oil pressure should be. My RV8 has a pressure of around 30 psi when I start it up. After a little while the pressure drops as the revs drop. The gauge has just started to drop low down until I put my foot down and then the pressure picks up. I am just a little concerned about the pressure dipping. It did not do this when I first put the engine in but has just started doing it. any advise/ suggestions would be welcome. Regards Martsam |

What does it drop to? Mine also drops a bit at tickover, I think that its just over 30 then picks up to about 35-40 over about 2000 rpm. The temp of the oil makes a big difference along with its viscosity. I doubt that you've got a problem, I've heard that some rover lumps drop to 10-15 psi at tickover and still run OK. HTH, Pete |

| If you have the standard cog type oil pump driven by the dissy then this is normal, half my SD1's the oil light would flicker at junctions. It all depends on the age and condition of the engine. the best option is to fit an inermediate timming cover with the crank driven pump. my engine is 50 psi at idle and 55-60 on throttle.

| My experience is that with a standard oil pump set up 15-20psi at hot tickover and 25-30 at 2500rpm is normal. I guess it depends on the type of pump, the pressure relief valve, the type of oil, the filter base replacement and.........the state of the engine, but these are low pressure engines. cheers

| RV8 oil pressure standard is normally at hot, 10 on tick over and no more tha 35 at rev's it's a high volume pump rather than high pressure. With a Landy front cover and pump, MGB spring and moded I make 80psi on start up cold, 55 psi when hot and 25 psi on tick over. Osgood |
