Rover V8 Oil Pump fittings

I have seen several similar questions in the forum, but not quite all the detail I need:
1. The Oil pump body has a thread for a pressure transmitter and an oil pressure switch. Can each go in either hole?
2. With my VDO gauge kit, the oil pressure transmitter appears to be able to act as a pressure switch as well, is this correct? If so can I just blank the other thread in the oil pump cover?

One of these days.....

Hi

I had to fit a remote oil filter so changed the pump cover, to give the take off points, I have ETB gauges and the oil pressure sender acts for the light and gauge, I fitted the sender to one port and blanked the other one. There's been no problems and all works.

Hi QK

As a result of a few issues, I ended up with two oil pressure sensors from ETB fitted into both ports of the oil pump body.

Each of these units incorporate the low oil pressure switch as well as the sender for the gauge.

I can now switch between each sender merely by swapping the wires over !! Not the original plan but I had a possible problems with low oil pressure and I needed to be sure that the sender I started with, was actually working.

I have now proven to myself that both senders are sending the same pressure signal ! Therefore, which port you choose is irrelevant. the only reason they originally used two was that one was the pressure sender, the other the low pressure switch for the light on the dash.

HTH
