Valve covers for SBC

I have had the 350 SBC running, but after about 5 mins there is a tapping / rattling noise developing ... I have shut the engine down and taken off the valve covers which are Summit own brand aluminum ball milled type. There are half a dozen bright marks on the inside where the top of the valve springs have been catching (when closed) My pal suggested using 2 gaskets on top of each other to give it a little more hight due to the taper of the cover. Any one else had this problem?

Dave, try slotting the bolt holes slightly so you can slide the cover away from the retainers, some "race only" covers have this feature as standard.About 1/8 th inch should give you plenty, you might have to use capscrews on the top edge to give you enough movement. Forget the two gasket thing you,l never keep them in place, allthough Felpro do some extra thick ones if you feel the urge.....Mike
